Interesting to hear the emphasis of secure experiences at #governmentdx. Jen Easterly one request to improve security for agencies is to enable multi factor authentication. Our takeaway from enabling MFA for Medicare beneficiaries and Veterans is that a people-centered process is necessary for the success of a MFA initiative. Like most things, technology is the easy part. Building momentum and adoption of MFA requires context and understanding that can only come from talking with the people who need to use the system.

I am a big believer in doing your research before you make a purchase. The guide from GEOTAB linked below is a great starting point for any public works department looking to improve operational efficiency and reduce costs. But...it is just a starting point. The good, bad, and ugly of shared governance. RCOAST works with HOAs and Community Associations to help them prepare for a flooding event by providing them with real-time, unbelievably detailed data, risk assessments to define their vulnerabilities, then best practices for mitigation. Here’s what I’ve learned from working with these organizations: 1. Start early - From proposals to Board presentations, and resident Q&A to Board approval, it’s a long process. Knowing that in advance helps manage cash flow. 2. Stay out of the Politics - These mini-governments can be mired with political affiliations. Stay professional, steer clear. 3. Expect a high level of professionalism - most of these folks are former executives. They have decades of shared experience that demands attention to detail. 4. Over-Communicate - These stakeholders are not fit-size-fits-all: their backgrounds are varied, they come from a variety of regions, and they communicate differently. The best way to address their concerns is to be completely transparent from the jump, and to deliver. Shared governance is complicated. Approaching it from a long-term partnership perspective that prioritizing respectful, transparent communication is the key to success.

Cybersecurity threats impact water companies of all sizes. As such, the water sector must proactively oversee and seek ways to mitigate cybersecurity risk. NAWC is proud to join forces with #AWWA in advancing congressional legislation to form a Water Risk and Resilience Organization (WRRO). H.R. 7922, would establish a new governing body to develop and enforce cybersecurity requirements for the entire drinking water and wastewater systems here in U.S. Through this type of collaborative approach, cyber risk regulations and expectations for compliance will only strengthen over time. The scale and rigor of water grid attacks have only strengthened our commitment to robust training, investment and collaboration with the U.S. intelligence community. Special thanks to Congressmen Rick Crawford (AR-01) and John Duarte (CA-13) for introducing H.R. 7922.
