Medicaid redetermination, a crucial process for state Medicaid programs, periodically reassesses enrolled individuals' eligibility for benefits. This ensures that only those who qualify receive Medicaid services. However, it can lead to coverage disruptions if beneficiaries don't respond to renewal notices or face changes in eligibility. Health equity in Medicaid redetermination is about providing fair access to healthcare for all, regardless of socioeconomic status, race, or ethnicity. Addressing barriers like language, complex processes, and technology access is key. Supporting services through community organizations and social workers can assist individuals in maintaining coverage. By tackling these challenges, states can prevent vulnerable populations from losing Medicaid coverage due to administrative hurdles. A new survey from the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) and The George Washington University's Geiger Gibson Program in Community Health found that nearly 95% of community health centers (CHCs) have reported patient disenrollment from Medicaid, with an estimated 23% of those patients being disenrolled.    CHCs report that disenrollment has affected patients across all ages, including those with significant health needs, with:    ▶ Two-thirds of those disenrolled (63%) also experienced significant disruptions in care.     ▶ Nearly Half (49%) reported that patients lost access to managed care specialty, hospital, or other care needed outside the health center.     ▶ Half reported that patients had missed their scheduled appointments or discontinued or postponed ongoing treatment.    The survey found that if these coverage loss estimates remain consistent as unwinding continues into 2024, CHCs can expect that more than 3.5 million patients will experience coverage disruptions.     https://lnkd.in/g-dtUTur I #Medicaid #CommunityHealthCenters #HealthEquity #AffordableCareAct

A recent AJMC - The American Journal of Managed Care article spotlighted the findings from the 2024 State Health Disparities Report by The Commonwealth Fund emphasizing the persistent lack of equitable access to care among the nation’s most vulnerable populations, including those enrolled in #Medicare, #Medicaid, and #DSNP.    Addressing these glaring health equity disparities demands a comprehensive, ongoing #memberintervention and outreach strategy that transcends conventional “engagement” efforts by #healthplans. It entails actively connecting with members to foster trust, identify their disparities, and commit to overcoming each obstacle.    Achieving #healthequity necessitates prioritizing member-first engagement to demonstrate unequivocally that their health plan advocates for them and is dedicated to enhancing the quality of their healthcare.    https://lnkd.in/esdJgCSG

In case you missed it, our Chief Executive/Founder was quoted in the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health (OASH) Maternal Health Alliance Compendium, released earlier this year, in reference to PUSH’s mission and working together to mitigate the maternal health crisis. “The mission of PUSH is to provide a trusted partnership and support system for women, moms, and families through all phases of pregnancy, including pre-conception and postpartum. Our program is built on the foundation of Community Health Workers with continued growth as an integrated approach to care. This consists of CHWs, doulas, midwives, and public health practitioners working collaboratively with clinical and medical providers. One of the challenges that we have experienced is connecting with the hospital system.
