“I had the honor to meet Kandi Tillman in 2019 via a prior mentor of mine. Kandi’s broad knowledge of the private sector, higher education, government, and the military community blew me away. Kandi’s expertise was injected into launching and expanding Republic Services’ military-connected business resource group called VALOR - Veterans, Advocacy, Learning, Outreach & Recruiting. The business resource group supported over 3,000 military veteran employees with Republic Services and conducted outreach to 8,000 plus transitioning service members, military veterans, and military spouses. Furthermore, Kandi’s guidance and connections were instrumental in establishing Republic Services’ SkillBridge Internship program. At the time, it took six to twelve months to become a certified Department of Defense (DOD) SkillBridge program employer, however, Republic Services was certified in a month due to Kandi’s support. Additionally, Republic Services partnered with 50Strong, Kandi’s organization, to connect with 567 transitioning service members and military veterans for potential roles in the environmental services sector. I continue to refer military-connected job seekers to the 50Strong platform as a Veterati mentor and University of Louisville military-connected student advisor. I am grateful for Kandi’s friendship and professional support. Looking forward to continued collaboration in supporting our military-connected community.”
