As regional advisor for workers' health, work developed aimed and tried to cover a broad agenda of working and employment conditions, including prevention of occupational cancer, pneumoconioses, chronic kidney disease of non traditional origin, mental health and work, preventing violence at the workplace, holding campaings for improving working environments and decreasing workplace stress, building national outlooks and national plans for workers' health in Latin American and Caribbean countries, providing support and technical assistance for multiple hazardous exposures in different countries of the region, and seeking solutions to close the gaps of inequity for working people in several settings, including informal work, and critical economic sectors such as agriculture, mining and health. As well, support was provided for addressing the COVID-19 pandemic in different industries, including the health sector.
As consumers' health advisor we worked jointly with the consumers' safety network of the Organization of American States, trying to highlight the importance of product safety that needs to be enhaced to avoid consumers' injuries, diseases and other unwanted effects on human life and industry. It is worth to mention that the importance of addressing this field can avoid many unwanted injuries and fatalities due to unsafe products that more oftenly affect children and elderly. Show less
