You're a market research analyst in advertising. What are the skills you need to thrive?
First and foremost: a time machine. Because "market research," per se, is largely a dying practice. A colleague once said, "Don't call it research; otherwise they'll think they don't need it." The general practice we thought of as market research is rapidly evolving into data science, with Big Data assets, Identity spines, and now AI and machine learning becoming the new tools of the trade. So I'd say, become facile at the miniing and manipulation of Big Data assets. Paradoxically, I'll also say, get as good as possible at storytelling. Find the insights, the knowledge in the data, and make it "sing" when you share it up the organization. Market research used to be about sampling; now it's about, harness Big Data and tell relevant stories.
