We accomplish this through child-centered, evidence-based instruction that prepares each student to enter the New York City public school system in the least restrictive environment possible. In addition, we seek to support families with training, guidance and advocacy, and strengthen our school community through professional development and collaborations with local human service organizations.

As a publicly funded nonprofit organization, KCC serves public school children who are placed in our program by their local New York City Department of Education school districts. KCC is:

    • Approved by New York State Education Department (NYSED) as a Special Education Preschool.

    • Approved by New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYCDOHMH) as a Day Care provider.

    • Incorporated in New York State and registered as a 501c3 charitable organization with the IRS.

    • Accredited by the Better Business Bureau through the BBB Accredited Charity Seal program

    • An affiliated agency of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York.

KCC’s services are offered free of charge to all eligible families. Our programs include special education preschool; related therapy services (including speech, occupational and physical therapy); comprehensive evaluations in English and Spanish; family support and Medicaid service coordination.

We reach over 800 children ages 3-5 annually through these programs, which operate at our sites in Manhattan and the Bronx. We serve a diverse range of New York’s preschoolers: 53% of our students are Latino/a and 15% are African American. In addition, 37% of our students are bilingual. Among the preschoolers at KCSC, over 85% qualify for Free or Reduced Price Lunch.

The Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York Junior Board introduces young professionals to the varied programs and works of Catholic Charities through volunteer opportunities, social gatherings, faith-based events and philanthropic support. The Junior Board helps cultivate the next generation of leaders committed to Catholic Charities and serving those in need in our community. The Catholic Charities Emerging Leaders Initiative offers a path to leadership for committed Junior Board members who are ready to take on a more active role in the governance and leadership of Catholic Charities and affiliate agencies. The goal is to engage and nurture the next generation of board and committee members, advocates, volunteers and donors, through access to Catholic Charities trustees and other agency leadership and resources via informational sessions and workshops throughout the year.

Since 1917, Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York has been supporting New Yorkers in need by

    - Protecting & Nurturing Children & Youth
    - Feeding the Hungry & Sheltering the Homeless
    - Strengthening Families & Resolving Crises
    - Supporting the Physically & Emotionally Challenged
    - Welcoming & Integrating Immigrants & Refugees

However, this caring work that seeks to uphold the dignity of each person in the likeness of God extends back to the 19th century with the founding of charitable agencies by religious communities, clergy and laity. Today Catholic Charities is a vibrant network of agencies, independent in their structure and organization yet united by a common vision of human dignity and responsibility for the most vulnerable of our New York neighbors.

We believe that the biggest issue facing our returning service members is not unemployment – it’s underemployment. ACP focuses on helping veterans find meaningful employment opportunities and develop long-term careers.
