Boeing did better than expected in its tumultuous first quarter, reporting revenue of $16.57 billion — slightly ahead of analysts estimated $16.23 billion. The aviation giant's losses were narrower than expected, too, though it burned through $3.93 billion as it worked to address safety concerns. That's far more than the $786 million it recorded over the same period last year. Outgoing CEO Dave Calhoun said Boeing is using this "difficult" period to "deliberately slow the system, stabilize the supply chain, [and] fortify our factory operations." Boeing's commercial unit took the biggest hit, recording a 31% year-over-year drop in revenue due to the issues with its 737 Max planes. The company has been barred from increasing output as the Federal Aviation Administration probes its Jan. 5 door plug incident and its production processes. https://lnkd.in/gQv8aqF5

SAP has released its Q1 2024 results, which slightly exceeded Wall Street's expectations. The company's total revenue for the quarter was €8.04 billion -- an 8% increase from the previous year. Cloud revenue recorded a 24% increase, reaching €3.93 billion, while software revenue reached €3.03 billion, slightly above estimates. Though the profit fell short of consensus at €0.81 a share, SAP reconfirmed its 2024 financial outlook, forecasting continued growth in cloud and software revenue. The company aims to achieve a compounded average revenue growth of 10% through 2025 and plans to accelerate growth after that. "We're off to a great start in 2024, and we're confident we'll achieve our goals for the year," SAP CEO Christian Klein said. "Looking ahead, we have powerful growth drivers in place—business artificial intelligence, cross-selling across our cloud portfolio, and winning new customers, particularly in the mid-market." Klein noted that the company's transformation program is also on track to capture planned growth and increase efficiency. What does a Zamboni have to do with small business? Years ago, SAP (software company and sponsor of SAP Center in San Jose) turned to me for guidance on serving small business markets. As a perk, my team was invited to take a private tour of the SAP Center and then watch a San Jose Sharks game in their luxury box. It was an incredible event for our small team and I've remembered it for years. Particularly for small businesses, employees often feel like they miss out on some of the perks of being employed by a big company - holiday parties, team-building exercises, trips, gym memberships, professional development, etc. So where you can, identify creative ways to build in fun perks for your employees. (Start somewhere as simple as bagel Friday or company lunch out together once a month.) Remember that this is a way to build loyalty and a sense of commitment to the company. People go to work for social reasons as well as economic reasons, and these events create that. Oh, and it also makes great word-of-mouth and desirability for your company when employees are sharing "I'm going to go do xyz cool thing with my company". Just make sure your perk or event is something that could fit everyone. For example, a ropes course might not be the best option (if it's the only option) for employees with a range of physical abilities.

Why not put employees on the Salesforce board of directors? Sure Marc and Parker are on the board, but do their votes really represent the points of view of the vast number of employees? Individually, employee shareholders can look at the size of Benioff’s holdings and the activist investors and feel powerless. But if the employee shareholders voted as a block, how much power would they have? Could an employee shareholder block of votes influence the direction of some of the corporate decisions at Salesforce? An employee shareholder block is a big enough constituency worthy of consideration in board-level decisions. If individuals can get together on Reddit and influence the value of publicly traded stocks, surely the employee shareholders can gain influence by voting together. #salesforce #dreamjob #crm

When looking at the leader as a change architect, one thing that immediately comes to mind for me is delegation. Leaders are tested by their skills and capacity to delegate, and to do so effectively. Often, managing a workload in a realistic scope means understanding when the right time is to say no to a new project and to focus on the tasks already at hand. Most people are going to be overextended when managing an array of projects, so understanding where best to allocate resources is also a question of understanding what's best for a team. #ChangeMangement #OrganizationalCulture
