  • Functional brain organization of working memory in adolescents varies in relation to family income and academic achievement.

    Developmental Science

We asked if family income is associated with variation in the functional brain organization of WM capacity among adolescents, and, in turn, whether that variation is associated with performance on a statewide test of academic achievement in math. Findings indicate that family income is related to WM capacity and its functional neural architecture in adolescents, as well as to school measures of math achievement.

  • BIPS: A Framework for Curating and Executing Brain Imaging Pipelines

    Front. Neuroinform. Conference Abstract

Brain Imaging Processing Services (BIPS), an open-source framework, was developed with the explicit aim of making electronic data capture easy by providing access to reusable tools and environments and providing tool-chains that allow users to execute analyses.

  • Hair cortisol and salivary cortisol reactivity in adolescents

    Tufts Digital Library

The accumulation of cortisol in hair was used as a biomarker of chronic activation of the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal (HPA) axis in order to investigate its relationship with subjective reports of stress and its impact on subsequent reactivity. Surprisingly, adolescents who reported high amounts of perceived stress had the lowest hair cortisol content, suggesting that a negative feedback loop may suppress stress hormone secretion during chronic stress.

  • The Role of Oxytocin in Impaired Social Cognition in Autism Spectrum Disorders

    TuftScope

A literature review that explores oxytocin system dysfunction as a possible mechanism by which impaired social cognition arises in patients with autism spectrum disorders. Further investigation of the link between oxytocin and autism spectrum disorders may provide a link to solving autism’s elusive heritable component.

Projects

  • Brain Imaging Pipelines (BIPs)

    - Present

Creation of standardized workflows for MRI preprocessing and analysis. Uses NiPype to wrap many distinct processing/analysis packages into a single python interface, which allows for nodes to be connected into workflows with built-in support for parallelization to distribute computation associated with each node across a network/cluster.

  • Neural Biomarkers in Children at Genetic Risk for Depression

    - Present

We have collected brain and congitive/emotional measures from children at risk for developing depression in an attempt to determine early brain or beahvioral biomarkers. The goal of this project is to be able to use neuroimaging as a tool to achieve accurate early diagnoses and inform treatment for children at risk for major depressive disorder.

  • Predicting Educational Success from Brain Data

    - Present

We have been collecting neuroimaging and cognitive data from 8th graders across Boston in order to map the development of cognitive function to brain regions, as well as to predict academic success from brain and cogntive measures.
