What I loved about… Pacific Gas and Electric Company’s “Understanding your bill” Infographic on their website: https://lnkd.in/d49HEzM3 PG&E is one of the largest utility companies in the US and serves ~10 million customers in California. This investor owned utility provides natural gas and electricity to nearly 16 million people in its service territory. The utility used the inforgraphic below to educate residential customers on what makes up the price of electricity, from state policies and programs which includes wildfire prevention to taxes. It also highlights how non-solar customers pay 15% more than solar customers. On July 15, I had the honor of speaking at the Pacific Northwest Energy Summit in Seattle, hosted by Senators Maria Cantwell and Ron Wyden. We tackled some of the most pressing regional challenges, especially the projected 30% increase in electricity demand by 2034. To meet this demand, upgrading existing power lines and leveraging Federal tax credits are essential steps forward. At the Bonneville Power Administration, we're on it. With a $2 billion suite of transmission system upgrades and a reformed interconnection queue process, we're committed to bolstering grid capacity. Our efforts align with the innovative long-term transmission planning enabled by the Western Power Pool. Leeward Renewable Energy, LLC Energy and California utility Pacific Gas and Electric Company have signed a 15-year resource adequacy (RA) agreement for the 112.5MW/450MWh Sierra Pinta battery energy storage system (BESS) in Yuma County, Arizona. Set to start construction in September, the project is expected to be operational by H1 2025. Although located in Arizona, the Sierra Pinta BESS will benefit both Arizona and California’s electricity networks, enhancing reliability and capacity across the Western Interconnection. Adjacent to Leeward’s 179MW White Wing Ranch Solar project, the Sierra Pinta BESS signifies a growing trend in large-scale energy storage in Arizona, with other significant projects also underway. California, a leader in the US BESS market, continues to drive demand due to its high solar PV deployments and energy needs.
