“Joaquin is a major driver of R & D. From his company has offered its support and has promoted our research in our R & D group at the University of Salamanca. Thanks to him we have been able to focus our research in more practical and useful goals wich are of the major interest in social life. We have been colaborating with Tecnosylva in developping forest fire simulators and pollution dispersion models. His support and the support of his team has been essential.”

The Benefits of Alerting System Based on Standardised Libraries
planet@risk
The understanding of the alert content and trust by the recipients can be influenced by the alert message composition. This paper discusses advantages and disadvantages of an alert library based method to compose alert messages that aims at achieving harmonized alert messages all over Europe in terms of content and style. Additionally, it develops on further advantages by making use of the storage and processing capabilities of state-of-the-art receiving device, based on the alert library…

Alert Systems in Natural Hazards: best practices
Encyclopedia of Natural Hazards, Taylor and Francis (in press)
It is a summary of the best practices in warning the population that were researched during the A4A project. These best practices were developed and collected considering its applicability in the occurrence of major hazard event(s) whose consequences could cause adverse effects to property and citizens’ health and welfare.

It will transmit this data to a data base held in Microsoft's Azure for Masters in Computer Systems and Science (MCSS) students to analyze. Currently, the temperature sensors are deployed and additional sensors will be added by May 2014.
- Design and implement sensors to monitor the creeks and streams of Tacoma to monitor flow, depth and turbidity or Dissolved Oxygen. Each wireless node will have it's own energy harvesting device to power it. The sensors will be deployed in remote sections of the city and will transmit to a base unit. The data will also be saves in Microsoft's Azure for the MCSS students.
- Working in Collaboration with schools and businesses in Spain and Brazil, we are researching and developing a wireless sensor network system for the early detection of forest fires.
- Working in collaboration with University of California - Chico, we are researching and developing a wireless sensor network to be deployed on a local farm to gather agricultural data to aid the crops.
- Design and develop energy harvesting techniques that can be implemented with any wireless sensor nodes.
The wireless nodes use PIC micro-controllers, Raspberry PI boards, XBee devices and various sensors.Other creators -

The establishment and improvement of early warning systems has been proved to contribute significantly to the reduction of injuries and losses to life and property before, during and after a crisis situation[1]. However, in the context of alerting and communications to the population in crisis, the effectiveness of crisis management strategies and applied technologies to support them and to disseminate alerts at a given point in time will be influenced by several factors. These include the level of interoperability and common awareness between authorities involved, the perception of social crowds receiving the alerts, the role played by emerging new media, such as social networks, and the level of acceptance and penetration of applied communications technologies in the population as well as in the involved authorities.
The Alert4All vision is to achieve significant improvements in the effectiveness of alert and communications systems in crisis by providing solutions to align alert procedures and processes to:
-available and emerging technologies and
-trends in social behaviour and use of new media.Other creatorsSee project -

Other creators -
