Burns changed jobs and found the sale was different. #medicaldevices found out that the sale changed while the job seemingly stayed the same. His message here is exactly what I learned 10-15 years ago by happenstance. And Basketball taught me to look at MYSELF first. Not blame the officials. Or "unfair rules". Or size or speed of the competition. Or the Customer... You can make this pivot. Don't assume your company will show you how. But you can show THEM how. By doing it yourself. You got this.... Sell differently to get different results.

What made the difference? Sometimes I think sales is this way. We are all running the same race. We all have the same opportunity to put out the effort. So what makes the difference when a surgeon chooses their implant? Is it possible to succeed in a highly competitive market without giving absolutely everything you have? I won’t play a game competitively unless I’m trying to win. Anyone enjoy one on ones? When you get up in the morning do you believe you are competing in a game? Here's why I used to get angry about my implant costs. "Your ______ costs us $500 too much! You reps are making too much! Don't you know we are not-for-profit?" Sigh. Huh. We do 100 of these cases a year. You say my price is too high. I'll make you a deal. I'll give you the new price. I'll save you $50,000 a year. Here's what I want in return. For you to spend that $50,000 on a $&#&#&ing industrial engineer. To come in here to teach you: How to run this place with clocks and reminders and visuals... and whatever else he/she thinks you need. To run this OR faster and more organized so we can all get home before 7PM. Because you waste more time in this place not text messaging people. Or tracking your equipment. And Lord knows with your Cost to Charge accounting systems. Consider this my deal. Shake on it? It'll be the best money I spend this side of the engagement ring for my lovely wife. #medicaldevices
