Projects

  • Microwave Installation using AirFiber

    -

Installation of the wireless point to point systems allow for security cameras and classes within the field areas that would have been to expensive for traditional fiber networking. The project saved over $300,000 as the total cost for the 3 high schools was under $6000 for complete installation.

  • Wireless Optimization

    -

RF Profiling was installed with the default vendor auto configurations. The 30 buildings have variable construction materials as well as varying hallways and rooms within the individual locations. I researched the power options as well as interference frequencies and adjusted for the 5GHz and 2.4 GHz frequencies as needed. Also worked to adjust the power settings to optimize large rooms apart from smaller meeting locations. In some spots, we added AP's to cover load. Performance gains…

Also worked to adjust the power settings to optimize large rooms apart from smaller meeting locations. In some spots, we added AP's to cover load. Performance gains at virtually no cost was tremendous.

  • CWDM/DWDM expansion

    -

Installation of CWDM and DWDM in order to allow an outside community join our CAN, as well as allowing private schools to connect through our public buildings using shared fiber and CWDM to split the few strands and allow complete independence of the entities. The project saved the other agencies several hundred thousand dollars for implementation and allows for ongoing joint projects. The district gains from public support and shared costs in maintaining the CAN.

  • Routing and Firewall upgrades - Redundancy for bandwidth and security design changes

    -

The district was peaking out on the current Palo Alto with the increase of the student devices. My goal was to shift traffic off the PA, while maintaining the filtering portion of the devices, which are filtered through a cloud based service, and exempted within the PA. While upgrading our aging 7K Cisco router to efficient 93K routers, I installed virtual routes that can push the chromebooks into a route past the PA, but still maintain the network integrity of the wireless and all other…

The district was peaking out on the current Palo Alto with the increase of the student devices. My goal was to shift traffic off the PA, while maintaining the filtering portion of the devices, which are filtered through a cloud based service, and exempted within the PA. While upgrading our aging 7K Cisco router to efficient 93K routers, I installed virtual routes that can push the chromebooks into a route past the PA, but still maintain the network integrity of the wireless and all other aspects. We also upgraded the PA, though no options were changed, but did scale up, should we decide that we wish to go back to double filtering. As the Chromebooks are completely Google based, we have no need for the devices to be inside the firewall and within the more secure district area. The process took the filtering of 12,000 devices out of the mix, allowing us to concentrate the PA on internal network issues. Flexibility is design.

  • Printer/Copier Contract consolidation

    -

Consolidation of contract services on 200 large format copiers and printers into a single contract for price consolidation. This took a 5 year period to organize and weed through the contract processes. Overall, the project saves the district roughly $200,000 per year.

  • VoIP Installation of maintenance

    -

Replaced all ISDN and Analog lines associated within the buildings and built a VoIP system integrating E911 within every classroom and office space. The installation of more than 1800 phones has eventually led to virtual controllers and site based PBX systems for 911 redundancy. The project still saves the district at least $80,000 in service expenses and allows more freedom with equipment movement.

  • AAMFON Community Fiber

    -

Installation of Community Based fiber within 80 buildings and specifically for attaching 30 buildings within the school district. The project has expanded to allow me to draw up 501C3 documentation for AAMFON as a non-profit utility and to establish community expansion projects. We now have private schools, the university, and neighboring communities participating in the Community Access Network.
