Wouldn’t you say that testing cannabis for consumer safety is a regulatory function? If the purpose of labs is to protect consumers, that would mean they are fulfilling a regulatory function and should provide oversight of the cannabis businesses. You will hear a lot of ways to fix testing, but none of them deal with the root of the problem. 1) if a lab fails product or gives low THC scores, they lose the client to a lab that is willing to pass the product and give high THC percentages. 2) if a lab feels there is something wrong at a cannabis business, exposing their client can open them up to a lawsuit. We don’t have real third party testing because the lab is the agent of the cannabis business. This structure itself protects the cannabis businesses from scrutiny and the reason we are seeing a pesticide epidemic. This is extremely easy to fix, but nobody wants real third party testing, including safety advocates.

Cannabis startups are DEF a rollercoaster - 2 wks ago I was reeling from several gut punches... but today, things are looking bright: ✅ LOTS of new products in the pipeline that I'm SO pumped about... our Live Resin Vapes drop in NY before 710 and they're 🔥 🔥 🔥 . A bunch more new stuff I can't reveal them yet too… ✅ in NY, LIVE NUGS are in almost completely sold out - with most places re-ordering after < 2 wks selling a $100+ SKU! We’re getting a ton of inbound interest - shows that innovative products that deliver real value sell. Still early, but we should 2-3X our best month ever... NY as a market feels like it’s FINALLY getting its footing (hope I’m not jinxing us here). ✅ in CA, we've signed 4 MONSTER accounts since HoF and our new SKUs (esp Live Rosin Pre-Rolls and Live Rosin Vapes) are FLYING... it's painful for our cash flow to be scaling to meet demand, but feeling very positive about the turnaround in the most challenging state. About to sign up for the next big show in Sept… ❓thinking about expansion - though it's still early (wanna make sure our foundation & processes are solid in CA / NY)... but what potential partners should we be talking to in NJ for cultivation / processing / sales & distro? HMU via DM pls... None of this would be possible without our incredible team (Martin Mills, Cirona Labs, Peter Pietrangeli, Euphoric life , Lowell Farms Inc.) and our amazing retail partners. In general, I try not to get too high or too low - but feeling immensely optimistic about the state! Gotta celebrate the wins - as tomorrow I'm fully expecting to be punched in the face again LOL. BTW, in the rollercoaster analogy - which part is “good”? I assume it’s when you’re going downhill (despite Kevin Hart’s face)?! But then when we talk about life’s ups and downs or highs and lows - it’s the opposite right? Make it make sense?!

In California, if you have a license to manufacture cannabis products you can’t sell anything else. Imagine having a beverage facility and being unable to can virgin beverages, let alone hemp beverages. Hemp, on the other hand is permissible to be put into food and beverages. If you’re a food and beverage manufacturer, you obtain an industrial hemp authorization and you can make hemp derived products in your facility. Adult-use cannabis products can only be released to a licensed cannabis distributor, who only had cannabis products on their trucks. They can only deliver to one of 200-300 licensed cannabis retailers in California that actually pay their bills. Not a very addressable market. Licensed cannabis operators that pivot to hemp want to serve more of their fine products to more people, and they aren’t going to wait for cannabis laws to make logical sense. If you’re a licensed cannabis operator who isn’t in hemp, your frustrations are valid. Why not direct your energy to the state?

Nothing against selling Candy style Infused Cannabis. My issue is with the shopping experience. Shelf Space not being compartmentalized to separate the non cannabis additions from strictly Cannabis derived ingredients, creates a difficult shopping experience. "Drug Type" Cannabis has long been cultivated for its Cannabinoid and TERP profiles, Preserved and emphasized, as well as the combined Entourage Interaction. Personally I prefer Cannabis true to form. In the context of Infusion I prefer Extracts that are pure and unadulterated. When I partake in Cannabis use I want to taste the quality of the Cannabis, with emphasis on where Cultivation has taken its natural profile. I enjoy the Diverse Pool of Profiles Generated by the Plant, Not an Additive. I don't want to read through a product label to discern through the many ambiguous ingredient descriptions to conclude that it has something other than cannabis added to it. I feel it is much more appropriate to allocate the time reading labels comparing products I actually want. Separate Them! Gave up and defaulted. Not a satisfactory shopping experience 🛒

We are looking for people who want to debate some of the most important topics in Cannabis. If your position is a firm “yes” or “No” to any of the questions below and want to debate your position message me. I never thought I would work on a podcast because it is not my thing, but some of these topics need a deeper conversation than what’s possible on a LinkedIn post. I plan on being one of the people debating, not the moderator. We could use some help by experienced podcasters. The first one probably won’t be until late June. We are going to pose a motion, and have 2 people that support the motion and 2 against it. The first few motions proposed will probably be 1) Is schedule 3 good for everyone? 2) Does testing regulations need an overhaul? 3) Are seeds better for production crops than clones? 4) Is supplemental co2 always necessary for indoor cannabis?

What’s the point of testing if the cannabis businesses can find out what pesticides are not tested for and use them? Cannabis testing is a huge industry by itself because of regulations that require every batch be tested, yet it is so easy to get around that it’s made testing cannabis completely pointless. At least the underground’s quality isnt determined by fraudulent testing, it’s determined by aroma, taste, smoothness of smoke, Trichomes, etc.

The #cannabisindustry seems to be interested in HubSpot!!! Love it! 💚 The cannabis industry had grown leaps and bounds since I joined back in 2016. (2016!!!!??? It can't be that long... can it? 🥺😱🧓) I have seen the industry go from hiring only stoners and burners, to hiring the top executives from other industries. No longer is cannabis business done on the couch. It's grown up, put an clean shirt, and at least works from the kitchen table 😅 With professionalism, comes the software to track, implement, and grow. With all of the discussions around public safety issues related to hemp products, I wanted to share this thread about the significant investigatory work being done on the MJ side of the ledger. Thanks to Trent Hancock and Alex Halperin for bring attention to this very serious public safety issue and highlighting the need for stronger regulatory actions for these unsafe regulated cannabis products. Can’t we all just get along and sing Kumbaya by the fire? If you think the cannabis industry should all get along, you need to look closer at the dynamics. The reason I wrote “7 factions of cannabis” for Fat Nugs was because all factions have different objectives, and someday hopefully they will all be at the table negotiating a good outcome for all. However, the reality is.. Big Pharma wants schedule 3 and no further. Big MSOs wants heavily restricted licensing. Small Businesses and social equity applicants want lower barriers of entry. Customers want clean cannabis and homegrows. Those with cannabis convictions want expungement. Labs don’t want to compete over test scores and remain having high volume testing. Investors want strong returns instead of what the have experienced.. To me schedule 3 is literally 1 faction getting everything they want, and all the rest walking away with at best, the end of 280e.

I see some confusion in the Cannabis industry about the difference between LIVE RESIN Vs. LIVE ROSIN. Allow me to explain. Let's start with the basics. Both live resin and live rosin are types of cannabis concentrates that are made using fresh, frozen uncured cannabis plants. Live resin is made by freezing freshly harvested cannabis plants and then extracting the resin using a solvent like butane. The result is a highly potent and flavorful concentrate that's often used in vapes and dab rigs. On the other hand, live rosin (The highest grade oil available) is made by separating the trichomes from the fresh frozen cannabis via water and ice. The trichomes are collected via mesh bags and then dried out. Once dried, the "Ice Water Hash" is placed into another mesh bag to be pressed under high pressure and heat. The end result is a sticky, sap-like substance that's also highly potent and flavorful. (Curtis Ducart) So, to put it in simpler terms, live resin is concentrated made with solvents, while live rosin is like an all-natural concentrate made with just heat and pressure. In layman's terms, Live resin is like the fancy, high-tech way of making a cannabis concentrate, while live rosin is like the old-school, artisanal way of doing it. I hope this helps. Bring cannabis back outside where it started/belongs! No plant evolved inside. The carbon footprint of indoor cannabis is 1000X+ more than other crops. Cultivators have to pay for those resources. This is a major reason that the industry is struggling. It is unsustainable. It obliterates margins. A huge challenge now is that all that breeding and selection indoors has lost adaptive traits for outdoors. Simply put, the hot strains that sell don't do well outside. We're working on fixing that. Now that we have the new proposed text for the Farm Bill, the bifurcation of hemp interests me. Thanks for the break down Michelle Bodian. HEMP GROWN FOR CANNABINOID EXTRACTION.—The term ‘hemp grown for cannabinoid extraction’ means any hemp grown for purposes of extracting cannabinoids intended for human or animal consumption, inhalation, or topical use INDUSTRIAL HEMP.—The term ‘industrial hemp’ means hemp— (A) grown for the use of the stalk of the plant, fiber produced from such a stalk, or any other non-cannabinoid derivative, mixture, preparation, or manufacture of such a stalk; ‘‘(B) grown for the use of the whole grain, oil, cake, nut, hull, or any other non- cannabinoid compound, derivative, mixture, preparation, or manufacture of the seeds of such plant; ‘‘(C) that is an immature hemp plant intended for human consumption ‘‘(D) that is a plant that does not enter the stream of commerce and is intended to support hemp research at an institution of higher education (as defined in section 101 of the Higher Education Act of 1965 (20 U.S.C. 1001)) or an independent research institute; or ‘‘(E) grown for the use of a viable seed of the plant produced solely for the production or manufacture of any material described in subparagraphs (A) through (D). It made me think about the last Policy and the Plant with Steven Philpott Jr., MS, CSCS, where he talks about natural vs. synthetic cannabinoids, which I think is going to be a BIG conversation with this new proposed language.
