https://lnkd.in/eCA6HFxa City of Wichita shuts down #IT network after #ransomware attack Wichita, Kansas, has been hit by a #ransomwareattack, forcing the city to shut down its #computernetwork. The attack took place on May 5th, when certain systems were encrypted by #malware. As a containment measure, the #city turned off some of its #systems, which had an impact on certain online services. In an #incident notice on its #website, Wichita stated that the decision to turn off the computer #network was necessary to ensure that systems are securely vetted before returning to service. The city is currently completing a thorough review and #assessment of the matter, including the potential impact on data. Although it is unclear whether personal information was compromised in the attack, #Wichita has promised to provide details on the matter as the #investigation progresses. Finally passed my last essay for my C769 Capstone Class for the Western Governors University Cybersecurity & Information Assurance program! I Passed CompTIA Security+! Here’s How You Can Too (Plus a Secret Tip!) I just passed the CompTIA Security+ exam, I thought I'd share some tips on how you can do it too, with a secret twist at the end. Let’s start from the top. #What’s #CompTIA? CompTIA is like the IT certification mothership. If it involves computers, they've got a certification for it—cybersecurity, cloud computing, even if you just want to know which end of the USB cable is up. (Hint: It's the one with the logo.) #What’s the #Security+ Exam? CompTIA Security+ is the golden ticket to the world of cybersecurity. It's a rigorous exam that tests your knowledge of all things security-related. This isn't Hollywood hacking—you know, the kind where someone in a hoodie types fast and suddenly controls the Pentagon. This is the real deal. #How to Pass the Security+ Exam (and Keep Your Sanity) Here's how I passed, even though my IT skills were about as sharp as a butter knife: -Find a Good Instructor: You need someone who can break things down and maybe even make you laugh. I took a few courses on Udemy, but I recommend instructors who tell stories and give real-world examples. It's like getting insider knowledge without the security clearance. -Set a Deadline: Choose a realistic date to take the exam. Not "sometime before I retire." You need something solid to keep you from watching cat videos when you should be studying. -Don’t Rush: This isn't the Amazing Race. Take your time to understand each topic. The exam won't vanish if you take it easy. -Get an Accountability Buddy: Find someone who can keep you on track without being too annoying. A friend, family member, or even your dog. (They listen without judgment!) -Rewards Work: Give yourself a treat when you hit study milestones. It could be ice cream, a new gadget, or a nap. Who doesn't love naps? -Acronyms Galore: The Security+ exam has more acronyms than a government agency. Don’t worry—I have a resource that'll help with that. Think of it as a cheat sheet for all those confusing abbreviations. #About_the_Exam The Security+ exam is 90 minutes for native English speakers and 120 minutes for non-native speakers. The passing score is 750 out of 900. It's a mix of multiple-choice and performance-based questions. Yes, it's tough, but that's why it's worth it. #Recommended_Resources Professor Messer's free course is a goldmine of information. You might need to buy some additional study materials, but it's totally worth it. It's like discovering your favorite show on streaming when you thought you had to buy the DVD box set. #Secret_Tip Now for the secret tip. It’s a unique way to boost your chances of passing the exam, but I can't share it here. If you're curious, send me a DM, and I'll whisper it to you. It's like having a cheat code without the guilt. 🔖 Join Hacking Village at Security BSides Albuquerque 🔖 𝐖𝐡𝐨 𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫? Have you ever wanted to be a pentester but didn't know where to start? Are you interested in pentesting but need some help getting the fundamentals down? Are you just curious about what some of the pentesting tools do? If so, then the Cyber Skills Labs are for you! The Labs are a series of five stations or tables, each one with a set of activities and tutorials focused on a pentesting fundamental;  enumeration using Nmap, web applications using Burpsuite, exploitation with Metasploit, password cracking with Hashcat, and vulnerability assessments with Tenable Nessus. Each station is designed to take about 30 to 45 minutes to complete and will have a web page to guide you through the activities,  including walkthroughs for each. Lab Assistants will be available to help if you get stuck. You will need to bring your laptop to participate. 🥳 Celebrating the completion of the first half of my participation in the Cyber Skills Center's Cybersecurity Accelerated Learning Program at Tulsa Community College with 𝗠𝗬 𝗙𝗜𝗥𝗦𝗧 𝗖𝗟𝗢𝗨𝗗 𝗖𝗘𝗥𝗧!!! The first half of the program ended last week with us learning about #cloudsecurity and I'm hooked!!! We'll be completing our first major project this week in Azure. ☁️💙 I decided to learn more about the #cloud and #microsoftazure outside of class, which led me to take the exam.
