Here's how you can establish credibility and influence with your boss in cybersecurity.
Normally, you'll see things like "be clear and concise", "avoid jargon", "stay on topic", etc... Effective communication is more nuanced than just speaking clearly - it's really predicated on your ability to effectively discern the needs of your audience. If you've properly discerned the communication style of who you're speaking to, and you can adequately adjust to their preference of communication, you'll communicate effectively. Effective communication begins with effective listening - not listening to so you can quickly jump in to answer something, but listening so you can understand. Understanding how someone communicates is the key to being able to effectively communicate to them. Some prefer it explained like they're 5; others don't.

The more you share knowledge, the more you deepen your understanding of what you've shared. This continuous learning cycle fuels innovation, particularly in the ever-evolving field of cybersecurity. By sharing, you contribute to a dynamic and progressive industry.

Trust is hard to earn and easy to lose. Building it involves reliability, truthfulness, accountability, authenticity, fairness, judgment, integrity, knowledge, and loyalty. In business, ask yourself: “Are you genuinely looking to help people?" or "Are you just looking to make money?” The core of this question lies in your values. Authenticity driven by profit struggles to gain trust, while a genuine desire to help - builds strong partnerships. Even if helping others doesn’t benefit you immediately, it will yield returns in the long run. Authenticity and a sincere commitment to helping others are crucial for success, especially in cybersecurity.
