Common sense isn’t very common, which underscores the need to be facilitating learning conversations with workers in the field. Despite the thousands of authors and books on improving safety, these situations are still occurring. Lagging indicators tell us that the dial still isn’t moving fast enough (if at all) in industry. Put down the books and stop philosophizing about safety. Leave your climate controlled office and get out there and make a difference! #safetyfail #osha #wcb #hse #ohs #occupationalhealthandsafety #construction #training #infrastructure #majorprojects #engineering #trades #builders #civilconstruction

Navigating the licensure landscape in Florida's construction industry can often feel like trying to find your way through a complex maze without a map. But there's a beacon of light for firms walking the path towards legitimacy and operational excellence. In Florida, an innovative provision allows non-licensed construction companies to operate legally as certified license commercial contractors, all by aligning with a qualifying agent. This unique framework not only broadens the horizons for businesses seeking entry into this bustling market but also upholds the stringent standards that have long defined Florida’s construction sector. It's a meticulous balance between accessibility and maintaining high-quality service delivery. Leveraging such opportunities requires understanding, strategic planning, and most importantly, selecting a qualifying agent who embodies integrity, experience, and reliability. This not only sets the foundation for compliance but paves the way for growth, innovation, and competitive advantage in one of the most dynamic industries today. As we explore these opportunities together on this platform, consider how aligning with a skilled qualifying agent could be your next strategic move towards achieving business excellence in Florida’s vibrant construction landscape. Let’s elevate our standards by embracing regulatory frameworks designed for our success.

Recently, I had a conversation with a representative from the White House’s Domestic Policy Council. Our discussion was about Naloxone awareness, education, training and distribution in the Construction Industry. We spoke about The White House Challenge and spreading the word throughout the construction industry. I am hoping Construction companies, associations, unions, etc will take this Challenge as it will be used for data to get funding for: Naloxone funding for training, education and product on jobsites nationwide. I know it’s a “touchy” subject but truth is, our industry has the highest rate of overdoses and overdose deaths than any other industry. We can not battle the issue or get any funding by keeping quiet. https://lnkd.in/eFNJQzde Please click the link, 1. Scroll to the Take Action tab. (It will ask you to input your contact information.) 2. Your Affiliation/Organization/Tribe is your business, union, agency or association name. 3. Checking box 3 would suffice for your pledge. 4. Details of your commitment can be as simple as: “I/We recognize Naloxone as a life saving resource and its importance of being available in the Construction Industry.” 5. You’re done ✅ Thanks for joining folks like Associated Construction Contractors of New Jersey Utility & Transportation Contractors Association Keystone Contractors Association SAFE Project (Stop the Addiction Fatality Epidemic) JE Dunn Construction in taking action! There are 3 things you need to pay attention to if you don't want to end your business Every successful construction company knows how to use these terms to their advantage. Want to know how? Keep reading... #1 Consequential Damages Consequential damages are consequential loss, which is essentially a loss of profit. The key thing in consequential damages is your client, more often than not, is so big that his profit or his loss of profit could be the size of your company. If you're agreeing to consequential damages, think again. #2 Liability Most of the time the word "unlimited" is a good thing. Unlimited space... Unlimited time... Unlimited cash... But not with liability, you have to cap it. #3 Termination A lot of times, termination clauses will lay out all the ways that they can terminate you and it won't say anything about how you can terminate them. Make sure that it goes both ways: (1) They can terminate you, (2) You can terminate them. Don't forget that these company-enders are all found in the contract. Every successful construction company has mastered how to use them in their favor to survive the competitive industry. Any contract terms you need help with? Drop them in the comments.

Navigating the Waters of Florida's Construction Licensing: A Game Changer for Your Business? In the evolving landscape of Florida's construction industry, one significant provision stands out - allowing non-licensed firms to engage in commercial projects by employing a qualified agent. This approach bridges the gap between stringent licensing requirements and the practical needs of growing businesses. However, it also raises critical questions about quality assurance, accountability, and the long-term implications on industry standards. By leveraging this model, companies can adapt more swiftly to market demands and opportunities. Yet, it imposes an added layer of responsibility on qualifying agents who bear the bracken of ensuring compliance and upholding high standards. This nuanced balance between flexibility and regulation prompts a broader discussion: How do we maintain integrity within the industry while fostering innovation and growth? As we delve deeper into this model's impact on Florida's construction sector, your insights could illuminate the path forward. What measures should be in place to support both emerging businesses and protect interests? How do seasoned professionals view this shift? Join the conversation below and let’s explore how these regulatory frameworks shape our industry’s future.

Each year the construction industry invests millions of dollars and thousands of training hours to address safety issues from fall protection to personal protective equipment. Adversely, the construction industry is one of the leading industries in two areas: death by accidental overdose and death by suicide. A statistic that none of us should be proud of. So I propose this question: Where is the investment in emotional fall protection? Imagine if we invested in helping members with mental health issues at the same level as safety classes during and post-apprenticeship. With emotional fall protection comes real change in the culture of construction. We need to move away from myths and rituals and embrace real cultural change when it comes to addressing mental health issues on the jobsite.

Success is born out of failure. I have been studying success for over 25 years. I have talked with successful leaders in business, politics, legal firms, and both faith and non-faith organizations. I have read books from authors on all of the topics listed in the previous sentence regarding success and leadership. I have watched from a distance people I know and greatly admire not because of their popularity, but instead of their humility in servant leadership which leads to success. Failure is involved every time. Typically, the greater the leader, the more failure they’ve had. It has been referenced many times, but I like the idea of failing faster what I mean by failing faster is if something fails figure out how to keep it from failing next time or simply move on to a different solution quickly. Be decisive! Serve others! Fail faster! Win more! #socialimpact #communityimpact #economicimpact #failure #success #leadership #servantleadership #giveback #givemore #pushharder

#BusinessBestieDay #EpicJoyRetreat #CostaRica #DetailsBelow I am declaring today business bestie day. 🤗 After more than ten solid years in business, I can confirm that business besties are a THING! Over the past few weeks, I’ve been engaged in more conversations about these deep and special connections, first thanks to a post by Shonna Waters, PhD honoring her bestie, and most recently two besties who decided on a whim to register for my EPIC Joy retreat together. There is so much life-giving energy that can come from having a business bestie, so today, I’m going to share three of mine. This post begins with Dr. Sonayia Akinlade. When I asked ChatGPT to define business bestie, it offered this: “A business bestie is a term used to describe a close and trusted friend with whom one shares a deep professional connection. This relationship often involves mutual support, collaboration, and encouragement in business endeavors. Business besties often provide each other with advice, feedback, and motivation, helping each other navigate the challenges and successes of their professional lives.” Dr. Sony and I met 13 years ago and it was as if we had known each other for a lifetime. She was my first friend after moving to Atlanta. We quickly discovered a mutual love for the craziest things like working on our laptops in artsy cafes over candied bacon and wine in the middle of the day. We once played on the Atlanta Heartbreakers full contact football team, joined a double dutch jump rope team, and I eventually began to join her family for their annual summer trips, one of which was Costa Rica. In 2013, we launched the Academy of Creative Coaching, breaking into an industry that severely lacked diversity and the visible global leadership of black women. With a mission to open doors and to blaze a trail for greater visibility and influence in the coaching world, we began to combine our traveling speaking engagements as a duo. We are now leaders in our respective industries and continue to support each other through our individual and joint ventures. We are sisters, business besties, and genuinely the best of friends. We have cried together, given each other space, shared our deepest secrets, and created greatness together. Our next big adventure is Zanzibar in August. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 Some have said never do business with family or friends. My experiences have suggested quite the opposite, as my greatest business endeavors have been with the people I adore the most. If you have a business bestie, strengthen that bond and bring them to the EPIC Joy retreat! November 27-December 2, 2024 Puntarenas, Costa Rica A co-ed experience Let’s GO!!!
