📊 The Cass Freight Index for shipments took a hit in April, dropping 1.6% from March and 4% year-over-year. The biggest contributors being a late Lunar New Year, the Baltimore bridge collapse, and private fleets snatching up spot freight. Freight expenditures plunged 16.8% y/y, and although the Truckload Linehaul Index decreased by 3.8% y/y, it inched up 0.1% from March. Notably, Schneider National saw positive contract rate negotiations for the first time in six quarters. Dry Van Freight Market Update May 20-26: ~The Top 5 States for dry van spot market (CA, TX, IL, NJ, & GA) volumes were up 6% w/w while linehaul rates increased by $0.03/mile to a 5 state average of $1.83/mile. ~Atlanta dry van outbound were paying carriers an average of $1.96/mile last week on 6% higher of volume of loads moved. ~LA saw rates increase for the 4th week in a row, averaging $1.82/mile on 7% higher volume of loads moved. ~Dallas dry van spot outbound rates were up $0.04/mile last week to an average of $1.55/mile on 5% higher volume of loads moved.  #freightmarket #supplychain #transportation #trucking #logistics

The latest update on TPEB Week 20 2024 indicates a space shortage, which may lead to delays and rolls. Some BCOs have set deadlines for certain items that are under anti-dumping investigation in June. Therefore, a large number of containers are being transferred from USEC to USWC. Due to a lack of space in the main port of China, carriers have reduced capacity in Vietnam and returned the space to their country. Consequently, the rates have increased significantly from 800-1000$/40HC, and the PSS surcharge is going to be implemented in June. If you are heading to USWC, please book early and pay attention to the gate date to avoid additional costs. Additionally, please consider picking up containers early as flexibility is the key From EC, the Panama Canal is increasing the number of ships passing through each day but still restricts container weight. Therefore, the primary route for container weight is still the shipping route through the Cape of Good Hope. Good morning my LI Friends. Every great shipment starts with the best packing. Preparing a palletized shipment with appropriate protection is our primary objective when shipping. When shipping 1 pallet, 2 pallet, LTL shipments, Gateway packs above NMFC standards. If the packing standard for the commodity is single corrugate we use double corrugate. Foam wrap, bag, box and band items is important. A custom Gaylord box with sufficient foam packing inside exactly the size of the pallet is a good start, Nylon banded down to the pallet secured the box and the contents of the box is also an important step. We don’t just shrink wrap boxes to a pallet. Gateway bands the boxes to the pallets prior to shrink wrapping, just this extra step, is sometimes what separates successful shipments from those that are not. Today do a little extra then you normally would, add one little step, go beyond the standard to ensure your success. Dry Van Freight Market Update May 27 - June 2: ~Chicago’s truckload capacity tightened following last week’s $0.01/mile increase to an outbound average of $1.68/mile. ~Atlanta saw a similar trend with rates increasing $0.02/mile to $1.77/mile average. This is up $0.20/mile in the last month on 22% lower volume of loads moved. ~Atlanta > Lakeland paid carriers $2.52/mile, $0.06/mile higher than the prior month. ~Lakeland > Atlanta paid carriers $0.83/mile and are $0.13/mile higher than the long-term average. ~That means RT is paying carriers $1.79/mile excluding fuel. At this level, carriers are operating under breakeven. #freightmarket #supplychain #transportation #logistics #trucking

Dry Van Freight Market Update June 3-9: ~In Top 5 States for dry van spot market freight (IL, CA, TX, GA, NJ) rates were up $0.03/mile on a 27% higher volume. ~LA imports increased 22% w/w pushing outbound linehaul rates by $0.04/mile to $2.19/mile.  ~Atlanta volumes increased 26% w/w causing outbound dry van linehaul rates to increase to $2.01/mile. ~Dallas volumes were up 32% w/w with outbound rates up $0.04/mile to $1.60/mile. ~Chicago outbound volumes were up 25% w/w with spot rates up to $1.96/mile. #freightmarket #supplychain #transportation #logistics #trucking
