“Jeannine was great to work with! She was extremely focused and well organized and was passionate about her responsibilites. I'm not surprised she's done so well. On a personal note, Jeannine found a way to balance her work/life responsibilites and had a good sense of humor. I enjoyed our time working together.”

What do you do if your executive team is resistant to culture change?
To me, the most important thing to do is to prepare a detailed assessment of the culture, both the good and the bad. Focusing on how the culture supports the strategic business objectives and how it doesn't allow for achievement of these can help the executive team to see that there could be counterproductive elements in the current culture. Focusing on the business objectives and strategies allows you to demonstrate that culture (and especially behaviors) are actually relevant to outcomes. Absent that connection, your concerns about culture could be brushed off as mere feelings or personal dislikes, as opposed to specific behaviors and actions that will undermine results.

What are the most effective ways to measure employee handbook updates?
William makes great points above and I have nothing to add from an internal perspective. However, there is a need to periodically evaluate your handbook with your employment lawyer to ensure that any relevant statutory changes are included. If you’re a multi-state employer, you’ll need to ensure your policies and practices are consistent with both state and federal laws. Part of the revision and updating process needs to include these additional steps as risk of legal action based on following practices that are no longer legal is significant. State and federal regs change frequently, so don’t get caught out with an out of date handbook.
