Purpose of Award: To recognize a member of SAA for outstanding service to the organization, to the University and to the community. This award honors our University’s Motto of Ut Prosim, “That I may Serve”. The recipient of this award will have shown his/her own ability to be involved with creating an atmosphere of inclusion within the organization as well as in the community.

Edward & Norrine Spencer Leadership Scholarship

The Edward F.D. and Norrine Bailey Spencer Leadership Scholarship was established to honor Edward F.D. Spencer, vice president emeritus for student affairs, and in memory of his wife Norrine Bailey Spencer, who served as associate provost and director of undergraduate admissions. The recipients of this scholarship will be known as Spencer Scholars. The award goes to an undergraduate student in any field of study who demonstrates outstanding leadership potential.

The mission of Delta Sigma Phi is to build better men who seek integrity and excellence in their lives and in those around them, by fostering an environment where college men can grow and develop to reach one's true potential through the reciprocal bonds of genuine brotherhood and lifelong friendships, so that ultimately these men are more able to seize all opportunities and have a positive impact on family and society. As the Philanthropy Chair, I was responsible for planning our five day, annual philanthropy as well as our four day annual blood drive, benefiting the American Red Cross. Our annual philanthropy, Egyptian Expedition, raised over $13,000, the most of any other chapter of Delta Sigma Phi across the nation in the year of 2014. I secured percentage nights with Blacksburg restaurants, planned fundraisers, and oversaw organizations participating in Egyptian Expedition.

These large scale events are put on by the Class Leadership Team who meets weekly to plan and promote these events. The Class Leadership Team is led by the Class Officers, a group of 8 student who run for office and are voted into office by their peers. Class systems at Virginia Tech is the body that organizes and spearheads activities which promote tradition and unity on campus. These large scale events are put on by the Class Leadership Team who meets weekly to plan and promote these events. The Class Leadership Team is led by the Class Officers, a group of 8 student who run for office and are voted into office by their peers. Class Officers run for their respective position in the spring of their freshman year and serve in their position for life. As the Class of 2015 President, I create the overall vision for over 5,000 of my peers. I also oversee a leadership team of 26 members and oversee a $250,000 budge for programs that enrich Virginia Tech's tradition. These events include: the annual Kick-Off concert, designing of the class ring, ring premiere, execution of two nights of ring dance, ring banquet, GradBash, and delivering remarks at both fall and spring commencement. After graduating, I will still remain involved with the university by planning all events surrounding reunions for the Class of 2015 while working with the Alumni Association to keep my classmates engaged with the university.

The Student Alumni Associates (SAA) is an official affiliate of the Virginia Tech Alumni Association. SAA's primary responsibility is to assist with various alumni programs and exists to better orient undergraduates concerning the programs of the Alumni Association. Traditionally, SAA has approximately 100 members who are engaged in a variety of activities to promote Virginia Tech. As the Vice President of Membership I was responsible for creating the membership drive and associated promotional material including, banners, table cards, video advertisements, and social media material. I also created powerpoints and presented information to over 300 interested potential new members, as well as created the new member application. I selected the membership panel that reviewed applications as well as the panel that conducted interviews. In addition, I coordinated all programs dealing with new members including SAA's flagship mentor program and bonding activities for new members.
