The best things Founders can receive from investors (apart from term sheets) is feedback! At Funden, about 50% of pass notes come with some sort of feedback thats actionable and helpful to the Founder. Here’s an example of a pass note from earlier this month: “We focus on having live, paying enterprise customers with a repeatable, scalable sales process and line-of-sight to series-A financial metrics" Boom! That kind of transparency is unprecedented in the venture world. This type of feedback says, "Hey we're excited about the industry and product, but we need to just see a little more proof of concept on the business before we can dive deeper". Now, this founder has someone they can reach back out to, who is going to be familiar with them, and the Founder will now be right in their investable sweet spot! Another one we got recently was a few investors are telling the same founder, independently of one another, that their round size was far too big for their level of traction. Markets are not created equal. As investors venture out into new categories of investment it’s important to remember that just because the word “tech” is in the description of a business, doesn’t mean that the dilution average of each round should be the same. The expected return analysis, timelines and milestones for raising new funding at a step up in valuation vary greatly. As a result, so should the valuations and ownership. If not, the returns of the space won’t be great (e.g. climate 1.0), especially on an IRR basis

Power sits were the money sits! In order to drive change with regards to diversity, equity and inclusion, we need significantly more (institutional) investors strongly pushing for it. And not only on founder teams level, but equally important when allocating capital to VC and PE funds!

this article perfectly highlights the philosophical differences between the mission-driven ones and the rest. The old VC model of "the rest" is obsolete. It's time to focus on influence or get drowned out in the sea of mediocrity.

A lot of investors have been asking me what the major industries are in the Venture Miami Built in Miami Startup Program. Here's the industry breakdown across 214 new South Florida startups. TLDR: The South Florida startups are pretty diverse across industries. Here's the largest categories in order: - 16.2% AI & Machine Learning - 14.2% EdTech - 12.2% Healthcare - 8.5% Marketing & Sales Tech - 8.1% FinTech - 7.4% Sustainability - 6.1% Travel & Hospitality - 6.1% E-Commerce The smallest category: Cybersecurity at 1.2% There's an additional 50 startups that didn't complete the survey in time but we'll get that info updated by Demo Day June 20th. #BuiltinMiami
