How can you encourage your team to use failure as a stepping stone to innovation and creativity?
Your ability to fail well together as a team can help spark innovation and creativity by allowing you to be vulnerable with your team. In a perfect world, we would always get things right the first time. However, even the best laid plans sometimes go awry. In those instances, it is important to discuss the lessons learned and collaborate on ways to make things better. When we use our failures as an opportunity to highlight the good things, and not to point out deficiencies, it can inspire us to contribute even when we did not win. Employees, in a place where they feel that they can learn from their failures, still contribute ideas, and feel valued are essential to maintaining the 1st-3rd quadrants of psychological safety in the workplace.

How can you develop adaptability when dealing with a difficult boss?
In my experience with a difficult boss, it was important to remain objective when met with subjective behavior. When things went well, there was no tension on the team. When a perspective differed from that of leadership, the environment became uncomfortable. This impacted morale and psychological safety. When employees feel like they can work collaboratively, they feel appreciated and will do their best work. When the leadership style does not support the diversity of thought, it is difficult to produce without always seeking approval. Once this behavior is observed, it is up to you to decide if this position fits your professional goals and personal development. Adaptability is important, but so is your mental health and self-efficacy.
