🚀 It’s a big day at Hoop! We’re excited to share we’ve raised $5m led by Index Ventures with participation from Origin Ventures, Chingona Ventures, Divergent Capital, and an inspiring group of angel investors. Two years ago, Justin, Brian, and I got together and started brainstorming. We had worked together as early executives at Trello for 7.5 years! We wanted to recreate the magic of the early days of Trello and respond to the epidemic of distraction we were seeing in the workplace. When I left Atlassian, I was in back-to-back meetings most days. Slack was constantly buzzing. My whole day was spent going between apps and praying I wouldn’t miss something important. I would wake up in the middle of the night remembering that DM I forgot to respond to. In an age of AI, this kind of mental fatigue across tools drains humans of our energy to do the work that really matters: the focused and creative work that comes when we can feel secure that we’re on top of all important work. Hoop is the product I wish I had. It connects to Zoom, Google Meet, Slack and email and automatically captures tasks for me using AI. It then centralizes everything in one spot so I never miss a task. Our vision is to rethink task management with an AI first principles mindset. There’s so much we can do now that we couldn’t have imagined back when we were building Trello. It’s an exciting time to be building in the space, and we’ve got a world class team taking on this challenge. Now’s the time to try Hoop out and let us know what you think! It is a great privledge to be backing Stella Garber for a second time, as well as her sensational co-founders Brian Schmidt and Justin Gallagher. It’s also great to working with Index Ventures again, too. One thing I have learned in my venture career is that humans are lazy, and software that does simple things can feel like magic. Paradigm's Reth AlphaNet simplifies developing on cutting-edge features like EIP-3074, 7212, and 2537. Just some of the things I'm very excited about for each one of those standards: [EIP-3074: Better Account Abstraction] Custom smart contracts for every account are the wrong path for account abstraction due to complexity and trust issues. EIP-3074 maps better to how people use the Internet in 2024: wallet as identity, invoker as service provider (e.g., Google), and dApp as the product. It enables gas sponsorship and transaction batching, the two main features people care about in Account Abstraction. EIP-3074 will likely be adopted by every embedded wallet provider to avoid integrating EIP-4337 AA providers. [EIP-3074: Immutable Cold Wallet Manager] EIP-3074 enables cold wallets to use invokers as withdrawal managers, enforcing whitelisted addresses, amount limits, frequency, and timelocks. The invoker smart contract, controlled by the cold wallet, maintains security while allowing fund movements that satisfy the policy. [EIP-7212: Self-Custodial Passkey Wallets] EIP-7212 is crucial for integrating passkey wallets into Ethereum for wallets using Account Abstraction (EIP-4337 and EIP-3074). It introduces precompiled contracts for secp256r1, enabling efficient signing and reducing gas costs. EIP-7212 allows self-custodial passkey support, with wallets securely storing private keys and utilizing precompiles for efficient transactions. It's a significant step towards making passkey wallets first-class citizens on Ethereum, but secp256r1 should be the ultimate goal for native EOA schemes. [EIP-2537: Replacing ECDSA & EdDSA MPC] EIP-2537 introduces efficient BLS12-381 curve operations, enabling safer, more robust MPC compared to ECDSA for Account Abstraction wallets. BLS signatures natively support threshold signing and distributed key generation, reducing complexity and attack surface of MPC implementations. ECDSA and EdDSA were not designed with MPC in mind, often requiring complex workarounds that can introduce inefficiencies and vulnerabilities. The adoption of EIP-2537 and BLS signatures for EIP-3074 and 4337 wallets is a good step towards more robust and efficient MPC, but bls12-381 should be the ultimate goal for native EOA schemes.

THIS... is why we started Summit Venture Studio... These are 27 software development projects Spencer Walker and I worked on while inside the University of Utah. The Y-axis is Millions of dollars (valuation). The X-axis are value inflection points. The two companies that had the highest value at exit/raise in this chart were actually valued much higher but it skewed the graph so I am just showing how much they raised. The GREEN all exited or raised money, the BLUE were all licensed to established companies so a real value was never set after that and the RED were shut down. An interesting point to think about is that these projects were "assigned to us" and were not "chosen" as good business opportunities. Now we are screening the deals we work on for commercial viability. I am super excited for the future. Who wants to come and play with us and start a company with us? We have 8 in the pipeline and I just finished a meeting where we agreed to launch our next company hopefully in the next few weeks.
