One of the great benefits to being a newer organization is the ability to quickly build in new tools to help solve our customers' challenges. After seeing multiple funders we work with struggle to manage complex associations within grantee organizations and between different grants, we rapidly co-developed this new feature with a couple of our customers. In the ever-shifting world of fundraising, donor-advised funds (DAFs) have become an important tool for donors to manage their giving, offering a flexible and tax-optimized way for individuals to support a range of nonprofit organizations. As nonprofit fundraisers, we’ve got to engage DAF donors and connect with them in ways that work best. A common question I get in my conversations with wealth managers is, “Can I make a pledge with a donor-advised fund?” While you can’t use your donor-Advised fund to fulfill a legally binding pledge, you can make a commitment to give with a gift letter of intent.  The Internal Revenue Code prohibits donor-advised fund grants from providing a “more than incidental benefit” Fidelity Charitable does not make grants that would relieve a donor's (or another party's) financial obligation, such as a legally enforceable pledge. But if you haven't made a legally binding commitment, you can certainly recommend a grant in support of your non-binding “pledge.” If you have questions, please reach out. Without funding overhead/salaries/operating expenses there is no project/program. Only funding programs/projects is akin to going to a restaurant and expecting to only pay for the cost of the ingredients. Just as there are more expenses for getting that meal to your table, there more than material costs in providing quality programs/projects.
