“I was extremely fortunate to work with Jan for two years, first at Google X and then later at Chronicle as we spun the company out; Jan was the General Counsel and a peer on the exec team. At a previous company, the head of sales made a very interesting statement: "There are two types of GCs: those that try to stop things from happening and those that try to make things happen." Jan is certainly the latter. She was very focused on getting things done -- and done well -- for Chronicle. Contracts happened efficiently. Deals were closed because Jan put in the effort to get the details closed out correctly. Advice was useful and thoughtful. Our head of sales raved about her, and with good reason. I think that an even better measure of Jan's high quality is that she built a department that everyone else raved about. Every member of the Chronicle legal team was very smart, very productive, easy to work with, and focused on making things happen to grow the company. It's a fine measure of a GC that her entire department is viewed as uniformly excellent, and Jan earned that measure. I would work with her again anywhere.”
