👋 Hello Friends, I'm excited to resume the #50DaysOfDataStructuresAndAlgorithms series! 🎉 Life sometimes throws unexpected events our way, and I had to pause after Day 3. But I'm back and ready to dive into Day 4 with renewed energy and enthusiasm! 🚀 For those who are new, this series is dedicated to exploring and solving various coding challenges related to data structures and algorithms. It's a great way to sharpen our problem-solving skills and deepen our understanding of these fundamental concepts. 🔍 Day 4 Challenge: Today’s challenge focuses on Recursion. Here’s the problem statement: Problem Statement: The Josephus Problem  There are n friends that are playing a game. The friends are sitting in a circle and are numbered from 1 to n in clockwise order. More formally, moving clockwise from the ith friend brings you to the (i+1)th friend for 1 <= i < n, and moving clockwise from the nth friend brings you to the 1st friend. The rules of the game are as follows: Start at the 1st friend. Count the next k   friends in the clockwise direction including the friend you started at. The counting wraps around the circle and may count some friends more than once. The last friend you counted leaves the circle and loses the game. If there is still more than one friend in the circle, go back to step 2  starting from the friend immediately clockwise of the friend who just lost and repeat. Else, the last friend in the circle wins the game. Given the number of friends, n, and an integer k, write a function that returns the winner of the game. The runtime of my solution is O(n). Last summer I failed to land an internship. I'm now 1 week into my internship with Amazon. Here's what worked for me: 1) I kept a journal and logged all the Leetcode problems I did 💻 📒 I detailed patterns and data structures behind each solution. This allowed me to quickly review past problems I did. 2) I worked on a personal project     The hardest part for me was knowing where to start. I followed a Youtube tutorial to learn the basic structure of a project then just sauced it up in my own way (I made a personal journal). This allowed me to stand out and show initiative to my interviewers. 3) I did multiple mock interviews (Behavioral + Technical)     I practiced how to highlight my experience in conversations and explain my thought process in technical interviews. I felt confident going into interviews and this made the biggest difference. The internship search was always the most confusing part of college for me, but I hope this helps someone out! This project not only showcases my technical skills but also my commitment to creating practical, user-centered applications. Problem-Solving Highlights: Yarn Installation Timeout: Problem: Faced a challenge with Yarn timeouts during installation. Solution: Implemented a .yarnc file with a custom timeout of 5000 milliseconds, allowing for successful installation under network constraints. TMDB API Authentication: Problem: Encountered connectivity issues due to incorrect API authentication. Solution: Updated the environment variables to utilize the correct bearer token, restoring full functionality and teaching me the critical importance of API specs. Deleting Favorites and Reviews: Problem: Users were unable to delete data due to misconfigured routes. Solution: Realigned HTTP methods and paths in the Express router, ensuring compliance with RESTful design principles. 📌 Introducing My Flask-Based URL Shortener! I’m excited to share my latest project—a URL shortener built using the Flask framework. This tool transforms long, unwieldy URLs into concise, easy-to-share links. This project was a key task during my backend internship at CodeAlpha and it was a fantastic learning experience, allowing me to: ♦ Learn different frameworks. ♦ Enhance my web development skills. ♦ Understand URL mapping and redirection mechanisms. 📌 Technologies Used: ♦ Flask ♦ HTML/CSS ♦ SQLAlchemy ♦ SQLite 📌 Explanation: This Flask application serves as a URL shortener, leveraging SQLAlchemy for database management. Upon receiving a URL through a form submission on the home page (/ route), it validates the URL and checks if it already exists in the database. If the URL is valid and not already shortened, a random 6-character string is generated as a short URL. Both the original and shortened URLs are stored in an SQLite database. Users can then access the original URL through its corresponding short URL, which redirects to the original URL when accessed via the /r/<short_url> route. He advises being optimistic about your team's ability to figure things out. Excited to share my journey so far as a Security Engineer Intern at TikTok! Throughout this internship, I've had the opportunity to significantly grow my technical skill set and professional mindset. Here are the three biggest lessons I've learned so far! Security Engineering: Delving deep into cloud security has been incredibly rewarding. I've gained hands-on experience with securing cloud infrastructures, implementing robust security measures, and understanding the complexities of cloud-native environments. 📌2025 Internship Seekers: Here's the strategy I used to earn my 1st Microsoft internship! 💡 Securing your dream internship is all about applying relentlessly! 🔎 When I was on the hunt for my first internship at Microsoft, I submitted over 420 applications (yes, you read that right - 420!). 📈 It's a numbers game, and persistence is key. Don't get discouraged by rejections; instead, use them as fuel to keep going. The more you apply, the higher your chances of success. ⏲ Personally, I used a simple strategy: I set a 30 minute daily goal for applications and didn't stop until I hit that target. How I plan my days as an intern Right before I log off for the day: 💡 Pull up my Google Doc titled "To Do" and write a summary, including the major tasks I accomplished that day, what my main takeaways were during a particular meeting, new skills I learned, etc. 💡 Make my to-do list for the next day. The morning later when I come into the office: 💡 Catch up on any unread Slack messages 💡 Look at my calendar for the day for stand-ups, sprint planning, etc. 💡 Adjust my tasks accordingly Takeaway: We often have so much going on at work, from being in meetings, working on our own projects, networking, etc. If we try to process all of it in our heads, it may feel like a lot, and we may forget bits here and there. Thus, it's important to DOCUMENT your progress and your accomplishments. In the end, no one is going to know our impact and contributions unless we tell them and keep track of them ourselves! 🌟 Interview Experience with AWS for SDE Intern Position 🌟 I recently had the opportunity to interview for the Summer Software Development Engineer (SDE) Intern position at Amazon Web Services (AWS). Although I didn't receive an offer, I wanted to share my experience and the valuable insights I gained from the process. Back in March, I had applied for the position on the Amazon website. A few days later, I received an Online Assessment. Once I gave the assessment, I received a link to schedule an interview some days later. I was over the moon upon receiving this email. Then after began my rigorous preparation for the interview, working on the behavioral and technical aspects. My interview was scheduled at the beginning of the last month. The interview could be broken up into four sections. First section comprising of the candidate's and the interviewer's introduction, lasting around 5 minutes. The second section, behavioral, comprised of a bunch of questions such as "Tell me about a time when you went above and beyond to do your job better", "Tell me about a time when you felt that you would not be able to meet a deadline. What did you do?" and more. This section took around 30 minutes. Then came the technical section of the interview, where I was asked to solve a question on strings within a window of 25 minutes. I believe this was the section that wasn't satisfactory from my end and the one which led to me receiving the eventual rejection. The last section was a 5-minute-long Q&A between the interviewer and the interviewee. Here are a few key takeaways from my experience: ⭐Preparation is Key: Resources like LeetCode, Cracking the Coding Interview, and mock interviews with peers were immensely helpful. One key aspect of your preparation must be a thorough understanding of each and every part of your solution. In my case, even though I had come across the problem I was asked in the interview during my preparation, I believe that my clarity on the solution was not up to the mark which led to me receiving the rejection. ⭐Behavioral Questions: AWS places a strong emphasis on its Leadership Principles. Preparing for behavioral questions by aligning my experiences with these principles was crucial. ⭐Nerves: In my opinion, it is vital for one to stay calm, believe in themselves and do their best to avoid getting anxious before and during the interview. I believe this is one more area I could improve upon. I would like to thank Claire Iacono and Akshay A. for providing me the opportunity to interview at Amazon Web Services (AWS). I had hoped to share a different outcome, but unfortunately, it wasn't meant to be this time. Hello, LinkedIn Connections! As I am graduating from USC with a Master's degree in CompSci, I would like to present one of my favorite projects to you guys. Last semester, I had the wonderful opportunity to learn Game Development through CSCI-526: Advanced Mobile Devices and Games. Over the course, we developed a platformer game with a math puzzle as a twist. Our core mechanics is to arrive at the destination through strategically picking up numbers and overcoming obstacles. Meanwhile, you can leverage different superpowers like Anti-gravity, Teleportation, and others to destroy enemies, discover new paths, and solve seemingly impossible math puzzles. The main obstacle was connecting these fun superpowers with our core mechanic, which is heavily based on mathematics. The interaction between all these mechanics seemed less intuitive. It even resulted in the failure of our first couple of prototypes.  Thank God we had plenty of Play-Test sessions to understand the players' mindset and how they perceive our game designs. Using strategies like A/B testing, Gameplay Data analysis, and Player feedback analysis, we reached our final game structure. It is important to mention that the Effort vs. Impact Matrix helped us expedite the development and refinement of our mechanics. It was a wholesome new experience for me, not just as a Game Developer but also as a leader. I led a team of five developers, managing team dynamics, evaluating designs, and testing and optimizing production builds. Presenting the game to the whole class on a regular basis definitely added incentives to the class. I would like to thank Prof Scott Easley and TAs Datt Patel, Powen Yao, and Junmeng Xu for their valuable guidance throughout the course. PS: Ultimately, you will definitely enjoy the game if you like math. Even if you don't like math, I am sure this game will make you fall in love with math. Feel free to play the game.
