We have been discussing this since 2016 when #Congress made historical changes to the #MHS . There have been several studies on the MHS. Mapping out capabilities, capacities, and markets across Office of the Secretary of Defense and U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs allows a better understanding of needs across the system. Additional federal needs can be assessed as well. We may want to finally look to the future of one federated system to improve readiness, bring beneficiaries into the system, lower overall federal costs, invest in more resilient infrastructure, maintain clinical skill sets, and mature the fourth mission towards emerging threats. DISA Expands Thunderdome Zero Trust Program Deployment; Brian Hermann, Quoted. ExecutiveGov discusses the Defense Information Systems Agency's (DISA) expansion of the Thunderdome zero trust program. In 2023, the program was deployed to 15 sites and plans are underway to extend it to 60 more sites in 2024. These numbers necessitated the establishment of a “Zone of the Interior,” which integrated military and civilian healthcare networks for definitive treatment and rehabilitation of casualties. Current security threats demand refocusing and bolstering the Military Health System's definitive care capabilities to maximize its force regeneration capacity integrated with the National Disaster Medical System.

This morning, in Cameron Hall, I had the great opportunity to address the VMI Corps of Cadets on the Next Campaign. We discussed the journey the Corps has taken since COVID, define we are going, what is in front of us, and the courses of action needed to get there. The Next Campaign centers on the VMI Leader Journey.  The objective is to forge confident and honorable Citizen-Soldiers who lead with honor and integrity, dignity, and respect. Key extracts from the Next Campaign are by Class: For the Great and Mighty Class of 2027.  Your VMI Leader Journey takes you to a year where you learn to influence others. What this means is to further develop your interpersonal and communication skills to influence effectively at a one-on-one level, as a team and group. Your leader development tasks are to; Learn to think before you speak. Learn to act when the time is right. Deal in facts. Resolve differences face to face. Do the right thing when no one is watching. And, do not pass by wrong, correct it.   For the Great and Mighty Class of 2026.  As emerging leaders within the Corps, your leader development focus is on leading within the organization. You run the Corps and what that means is taking guidance and direction from your leaders and put it into action. Defense Contractors, The Pentagon and Congress | Daniel Sheehan (VETTED Podcast) A deep-rooted symbiotic relationship has developed between the Pentagon and military contractors. This connection is evident today, especially concerning the UFO/UAP issue. Allegations suggest that defense contractors, reputed to possess exotic technologies of non-human origin, are using their influence to maintain the secrecy around UFOs/UAP. These companies lobby aggressively on Capitol Hill, channeling substantial campaign donations to key lawmakers. For instance, Mike Rogers, who chairs the House Armed Services Committee, primarily receives his campaign funding from Lockheed Martin. This financial connection prompts a critical question: Why would Lockheed Martin, and possibly other defense firms, invest heavily in certain members of Congress? The apparent motive is to secure and enhance their private profits, at the expense of transparency and accountability in matters such as UFO/UAP investigations. https://lnkd.in/gETWJyQy

#exoskeletons and Soldiers ➡ One of the most recent and most published DoD #exoskeleton projects was the Army Futures Command effort - "Pathfinder" - a bottom-up study, collaboration and evaluation of potential solutions for the 101st Airborne Division out of Ft. Campbell and Vanderbilt University. 📌 The #biomechanics study provided the opportunity to observe Soldiers while conducting operations of high intensity and known to increase the risk for MSD. 👉🏼 The project was a successful proof-of-principle (following the open source literature) on the collaboration between the AFC/DEVCOM lab system and ARL + Soldier Center, Vanderbilt University and the 101st R&D group. It also allowed for updating the design of a commercial-off-the-shelf product to suit [a particular] user needs. Some of the assumptions included that the results from the study are a) conclusive and b) apply broadly accross the DoD. The Vanderbilt team spent +12 months with a limited number of Soldiers in a specific unit of operation, learning, gathering insight, information and mutually beneficial data. Eye opening to say the least for all the players involved, particularly for students and academics with limited knowledge on the rigors of military work and service. Fascinating for the military supporting an Army funded effort and the opportunity to work with a prestigious academic institution! 😁 One of the valuable lessons learned is that there is definitely "a" need for DoD adoption and use of #wearables #exosuits and it left a door wide open to understand that one small group is not representative of the risks of military service/users and one product can't satisfy the needs of all. 🤝 Leaving the door open for further investigation, analysis, technology vetting and DoD consideration of which products and under what conditions (cost, usability, operational value, etc.). ⁉ Want to learn more about how many different jobs could be exobeneficiaries? This video is a snapshot of another much larger community representing 167 different types of operators that come together for mission (s). Leaving us feeling that definitely "one size will not fit most or all". Also refer to Borislav Marinov thoughts on soldiers challenging work. And this is ONE COMMAND of several. Can you imagine? Thus, as needing of assistance as the 101st is, they can't represent THE ARMY in general. 🌭 And this is just the U.S.A - each country evaluating #biomechanics, #ergonomics #softsuits and exoskeletons have their own focus, priorities and deployment strategies. For a reason. Our servicemembers could benefit from exos. Which one (s) will it be? The story is still to be written! The DoD CIO releases Fulcrum: The DoD IT Advancement Strategy today. Fulcrum supersedes the 2019 Digital Modernization Strategy and will ensure DoD continues to leverage the power of transformative change to deliver functional, scalable, sustainable, and secure 21st century solutions to the nation’s Warfighters. This new capstone strategy prioritizes user experience by ensuring that DoD’s IT capabilities are intuitive, combat ready from day one, and resilient in denied or degraded environments. Fulcrum is organized around four lines of effort that cut across the CIO’s Cyber, IT, C3, and Resourcing portfolios to provide interoperable, sustainable, and secure capabilities to our Nation’s warfighters and DoD’s enterprise business needs. - Line of Effort 1, focuses on initiatives to provide joint warfighting IT capabilities, - Line of Effort 2, modernizes information networks and compute capabilities to rapidly meet mission and business needs, - Line of Effort 3, improves IT governance to gain efficiencies and enable cost savings, and - Line of Effort 4, continues to advance efforts to develop the premier digital workforce. DoD DIGITAL ENGINEERING -- Joint Service Leadership Perspectives I've been working on a literature review for a series of Digital Engineering articles and came across several leaning-forward senior leader perspectives that I'd like to share. Impressive joint service alignment! DE will help conduct engineering in more integrated virtual environments to increase customer and vendor engagement, improve threat response timelines, foster infusion of technology, reduce cost of documentation, and impact sustainment affordability. --Michael Griffin, former USDR&E Ref: Digital Engineering Strategy, 2018 There is no time for antiquated serial processes, inadequate teaming, or lifecycle and functional stovepipes. Healthcare is an essential benefit for our military and their families and it should never be diminished, but… Regaining the trust of Military Treatment Facility (MTF) beneficiaries and building a quality MTF workforce will not be enough to maintain the readiness required to provide trauma care on our future battlefields. History proves that the trauma skills of our uniformed healthcare providers, honed during the recent 20 years of combat, will erode during our current period of relative peace. This “peace effect” will result in needless deaths on our future battlefield. A large percentage of the next war’s initial deaths will be attributable to injuries that would have been survivable had they occurred during our operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. This deterioration in medical readiness is directly related to the shift in priority described in the attached story. The Defense Health Agency’s efforts to prioritize healthcare delivery through the MTFs means that our uniformed healthcare providers will be more focused on treating a relatively young and healthy population and less focused on the trauma care they’ll be expected to deliver during the next war. More needs to be done to grow the DoD’s nascent partnerships with major metropolitan hospitals that host level I trauma centers. #militarymedicine https://lnkd.in/eX8ttecv

The Defense Innovation Board reports are getting spicy. 🌶️ The July 5 report on “ALIGNING INCENTIVES TO DRIVE FASTER TECH ADOPTION” is a strong read. I am concerned though, that the report in some sections, places a lot of the blame at the feet of primes system integrators. There is much blame to go around but I worry this approach clouds the collective thinking on solutions forward. what contract modification are KOs and program executives making to legacy contracts to allow primes to take more risks? How can we focus on creating on contract flexibility across the $100Bs of contract already awarded? How can we modify contracts to create incentives for industy to better partner to deliver? If we need 10-years of “new acquisition programs” to move faster, we aren’t moving fast enough and the problem will have changed. I worry this creates an environment where people feel the the only only way to deliver improved results is “create new compeition.” Partnerships are greater way to scale than forced competition alone.
