The Psychopharmacologic Drugs Advisory Committee (PDAC), a group of independent experts which advises the FDA, yesterday recommended not to approve MDMA for PTSD. Several companies, including Lykos Therapeutics, are currently developing MDMA, for a range of mental health disorders, in this case, PTSD in veterans. In PDAC's opinion, MDMA combined with psychological intervention to treat PTSD in adults was not effective and the risks outweighed the benefits regarding the FDA's proposed risk evaluation and mitigation strategy (REMS). Although PDAC's guidance to the FDA is not binding, it typically follows it. This is the first psychedelics drug application to be submitted to the FDA for a mental health condition. Psychedelics biotech will be watching keenly at the FDA's decisions because the outcome will either be a game changer or a death knell for investment into the research space. In the US, ~13 million people live with PTSD, and existing treatments, including SSRIs, have been hit and miss. New treatment options are desperately needed. As we enter June, we proudly join the global celebration of Pride Month—a time to honor the LGBTQ+ community and recognize the progress made towards equality and inclusivity. We’d like to spotlight the extraordinary legacy of Audre Lorde, a trailblazing figure in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights and social justice. Born on February 18, 1934, Audre Lorde was a self-described "Black, lesbian, mother, warrior, poet" who utilized her voice and her pen to challenge systems of oppression and advocate for intersectional equality.   Audre Lorde's body of work, which includes poetry, essays, and speeches, reflects her deep commitment to confronting racism, sexism, classism, and homophobia. Her poetry collections, such as "The Black Unicorn" and "From a Land Where Other People Live," are celebrated for their powerful exploration of identity and have become essential readings in both feminist and LGBTQ+ literature. She co-founded the Kitchen Table: Women of Color Press, providing a vital platform for marginalized voices. Her participation in the Civil Rights Movement, the feminist movement, and the LGBTQ+ rights movement exemplified her dedication to a comprehensive approach to social justice.   Lorde's activism significantly impacted feminism by fostering a more inclusive view that embraced women of color, women in developing countries, and people who are part of the LGBTQ+ community. She argued that without acknowledging and addressing these differences, any feminist discussion remains incomplete. Three weeks ahead of schedule, the FDA has approved GSK's dostarlimab-gxly (Jemperli) in combination with carboplatin and paclitaxel, followed by dostarlimab on its own, for treating adults with primary advanced or recurrent endometrial cancer. This approval moves dostarlimab beyond the mismatch repair deficient (dMMR) or microsatellite instability-high (MSI-H) space for endometrial cancer. It was based on results from part 1 of the phase 3 RUBY trial, which showed that patients receiving this combination lived significantly longer compared to those on standard chemotherapy. The median overall survival was 44.6 months for those on dostarlimab compared with 28.2 months for the placebo group. This equates to a 31% reduction in the risk of death.
