I am officially launching San Diego Chalk Art Mural Makers & Creators on meetup at the end of May 2024!! I'm very excited to meet new artists & celebrate creating together as a community!! 🫶🎨🎉🙌 Attached are some recent chalk art pieces that my daughter & I created over the weekend. This group is about freedom of expression. I want you to give yourself permission as an adult to reconnect with the kid inside you to create, play, let go of all the adulting seriousness, & allow yourself to have fun. Your artistic level does not matter, this is more about you creating from the heart than following any specific rules, styles, or guidelines for your art creation. ALL ARE WELCOME. <3 My passion for chalk art at the beach & parks started when my daughter was a toddler. Giving myself permission to have fun, opened a space for others to give themselves permission to have fun too. Whether you're just curious about chalk art, you're a beginning artist, or a seasoned art creator, this group is for you. This group is open to everyone, all ages are welcome. Bring your kids, bring your spouse, bring your friends, bring your bestie, bring your grandkids, bring your nieces and nephews, and absolutely bring some sidewalk chalk art! ;) (You can purchase some chalk for sidewalk art at Walmart, the 99-cent store, Target, and Michaels, as well as other stores). This is an opportunity for artists of all skill levels to come together, be accepted just as you are, have fun, make new friends, share fun memories, create together & absolutely take photos of your art and your new friends (with their permission of course). Things to bring for our meet-ups: sidewalk chalk, water bottles to stay hydrated, sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat if you like, snacks if you want to eat something, a towel, mat, or blanket to have your knees on to protect yourself from being on bare concrete or to sit on, whatever you feel the most comfortable with. I also highly suggest bringing baby wipes, or something to clean your clothes and hands with from the chalk. Chalk is SUPER fun, and it can also be quite messy. ;) I will have some supplies with me, but depending on how big our group grows, I want to ensure you bring what you need also to have fun, participate, and really enjoy yourself.

Happy Friday! Loneliness should not be a thing on Fridays at work! Loneliness in the workplace has escalated to a "public health emergency" in regions like San Mateo, Silicon Valley. In response, Verkada, a security company based there, has rolled out an intriguing employee perk named the "3-3-3" to tackle this issue among their staff. The concept is simple yet impactful: after 3 pm, groups of three or more employees are encouraged to visit a nearby restaurant or business and spend up to $30 on food and drinks. While it's a playful nod to social bonding, the question of whether $30 is enough for three drinks in the Bay Area does highlight the broader economic environment. Beyond just a fun outing, Verkada’s initiative aims to foster real connections among its workforce, addressing the profound loneliness that can affect remote and information workers. The company has invested $300,000 into this program, benefiting not only their employees but also the local businesses they patronize. This approach illustrates how companies can creatively enhance workplace culture and support their community. Great information for current and upcoming job seekers out there - for those without Puget Sound Business Journal access, here's a few key points: - Workers in food and hospitality, retail, and construction have been able to find jobs quickly - Prospective employees in business and finance, education and software are having a harder time landing a job - 26% of newly hired workers found a job within a month, 72% applied to fewer than 10 jobs and 2/3 got multiple offers (my note: the higher the level, the thinner the air so this timeline is elongated for executives) - Those looking for fully remote jobs are facing intense competition because "you are competing against a bazillion more people" - 70% secured a job within 3 months, 22% within 4-6 months and 3% > 1 year - If you are not getting traction, it may be your resume materials, cover letter or LinkedIn profile (my note: Chris Stambolidis is a great executive coach who offers multiple packages to help job seekers with these items) - Using AI may hurt your chances if your materials come across as robotic or generic - instead showcase your "unique skills, experience and suitability for the role" - Finding and recruiting talent remains a persistent challenge for small businesses - it tops the list of operational challenges ahead of growing sales, supply-chain issues and government regulations

Back in the day the San Jose Mercury would report on who was arrested and who was found guilty in court. We thought we understood the story and the assignment. This morning we published an article about the win of a local San Jose social media journalist in an anti-Slapp lawsuit. We reported on this when San Jose City Councilman Peter Ortiz first filed the restraining order against East Side San Jose Times. What surprised me doing this story ? 1. How shamelessly unethical the San Jose Mercury News has become in their local reporting. They broke the story of a temporary restraining order being granted for Ortiz. But they didn’t get comment from the journalist or his attorney when they did. Nor did they follow up to report Ortiz lost and was found to have violated the First Amendment rights of a journalist. 2. That Jidge Geffon denied our media requests and closed the courtroom to the remote public , but called the case a matter of public interest. 3. That all of the San Jose City Councilmembers , City Attorney and the mayor have remained mum while these elected officials claim they are fearful of speech as they use city resources to claim they are fearful of their personal safety while they crest a public safety threat every day. 4. That the McManis Faulkner law firm keeps representing clients like Peter Ortiz. Abusive , entitled and overfunded to misuse the courts. The firm once stood for the First Amendment. Now they just try to weaponize it for profit.
