Two things I learned about Articulate Storyline today: 1. If you click Undo all the way back until you can't anymore, and then try to close without saving the file, Storyline may decide to corrupt your file for fun. 2. Icons used from Articulate are not included in the Media Library. One of these was less impactful than the other.

Instructional design thought of the day; Create a template that has as much as possible, so faculty do not have to build out too much vs. creating only the first few modules, letting faculty customize it, then having them duplicate and add template graphics to each page.

My best advice for #transitioningteachers looking for roles in Instructional Design is to look for ways to be an instructional designer now, in your current role. You may not have the title of instructional designer, but you can learn the design process and basic tools, and start practicing your skills by seeking out tasks in your current role that can build your experience. You don't have to go to a boot camp or pay for an expensive Articulate software subscription. ❓️Are you leading a meeting or professional development session during pre-planning this year? Use Microsoft Word to make a design document for it, then create a well designed PowerPoint. ❓️Is there a skill or tips you want to share with your fellow teachers or the parents of your students? Use Canva to create a job aid that's visually interesting and makes sense. Doing this won't ✨️magically✨️ make Instructional Design job offers fall at your feet, but by looking for ways to be an instructional designer in your current role you will learn by doing, build up your resume, and prepare yourself to talk about your process when you get interviews.

Okay folks, here's an example of what you're going to see a lot more of this FY because of the extended CRs this year....RFI requests with market research responses due in less than 2 weeks (this one is 11 calendar days). Simple tips to respond: ✅️ Don't over think the responses to each point. It's not a proposal. ✅️ Answer only what's asked. Don't elaborate. ✅️ Don't get fancy with a bunch of graphics, pictures, or offset quotes. ✅️ Have some canned projects written for this purpose so you can plug and play for the work you want to capture at end of FY. ✅️ Make sure you proof everything. Yes, typos occur but those types of things still matter. It indicates a quality level. Don't skip putting a second set of eyes on it before hitting send. After submission... ✅️ Start tracking the action and working through another bid/no bid decision (and you should do a cursory decision for the RFI response so you're not chasing something that doesn't make sense). ✅️ Prioritize it within other opportunities you are watching. Go after "winners" not the "hopefuls". ✅️ Share with partner offices, potential prime or sub, etc. Start seeking out your team in prep for later. This end of FY is shaping up to be a doozy with RFI requests like this with a short fuse coming out this early.

This video article by Diane Elkins is a tremendous help in learning to mix and match Articulate Storyline Templates and use your own color scheme. This is on the Associate for Talent Development website and is for members only. I do recommend you join ATD if possible as you will use so much of what you can gain from this organization. In this case, try this article.
