If you are NOT interested in a job, the correct response is "Let me send you 2 people who might be interested" Enough of all this selfishness. You don't need to get offended. You don't need to throw a hissy-fit about the pay. You don't need to rant about the onsite requirements. This job market is a nightmare. People are losing jobs. You should be helping out your friends, colleagues, and community. Just drop a name and a phone number . "Call this person, they might be interested" Worst case scenario, it is a voicemail that gets ignored. BUT If they take the job then you just saved the day! Recommend more friends and that same energy will come back to you.

If you have a phone screen with a recruiter and want to stand out? TAKE NOTE ✍ I had a phone screen scheduled with a candidate today and I started the day with an email from them preparing me for the conversation by sharing: ⭐ Why they're a good fit for the job ⭐ Why they're interested in the company ⭐ Some personal hobbies and interests This gave me so much more information about the candidate than just their resume and made me really excited for the conversation. For this position, there's over 100 applicants. This candidate made the extra effort to stand out - and it WORKED for me! 🚨 PS - All Recruiters are different and some may not find it helpful for a candidate to do this. I'm simply sharing a tactic that can show your passion for a role and company before even getting on a call with the team. I once had a recruiter tell me... that if you meet 40% or more the requirements apply to the job. Just because you don't meet all the requirements doesn't mean don't apply. No need to second guess yourself since that 40% is up to you to decide. This is how anyone looking for a new job should approach them. Let's get these jobs. 🔍 Don't just reach out to any and every recruiter you see on LinkedIn! Be specific with the recruiters you are reaching out to and speaking to. 🛠️ It's like going to a mechanic for accounting help. I wish I could help everyone in every industry, but I'll be fully transparent with you: if it's not in one of the industries we tailor our services to, then there is 100% a better recruiter you should be speaking with. 🔍 Do your research. Make sure the recruiter you are reaching out to has expertise, connections, and knowledge in the industry you are looking to pursue. ⬆️ This will raise your chances significantly in landing a job!

Recruiting is not a quantity game. And any recruiter claiming it is… Hasn't been in this craft long enough. One really qualified candidate is worth about 20 mediocre candidates. If we really believe this… It should absolutely impact how we go about sourcing and vetting candidates. Quality > Quantity.

Applying to more jobs will raise your chances at interviews. But mass applying to jobs that don't match your skillset will just waste your time and energy. As an example, I have recently posted a "Director of Data & Analytics" role to which I received applications from Business Analysts with two years of experience or Data Engineers with no managing experience at all. We all have aspirations to grow our careers, but you have to make sure you are taking the right steps. Understand what the right next step is for you, considering your career history and your end-goals Then apply to related roles. ⏳ How long does it take a recruiter to screen a resume on average? 6-7 seconds. That's it. Kind of shocking, I know! Now, it is important to note that this amount of time can vary depending on the number of applications they receive/the number of candidates they have for the role. Certain application/hiring software can also be a factor at play if your resume is being screened by a piece of equipment versus an employee. 💡 This is why it is crucial to ensure your resume is formatted with exceptional organization so recruiters can find the information they are looking for as efficiently as possible, such as your specific accomplishments or job achievements, leadership experience, educational background, etc. Your resume should be easy to read - keep it simple, yet effective. Recruiters please stop the posts about the Open To Work banner, how it makes people look desperate, or they're less desirable somehow because of a few green pixels. The banner isn't for you. People don't turn the banner on as a signal to recruiters, that's what the secret OTW toggle is for. The banner is so folk can let people in their network know they're looking for work, to pass on referrals or opportunities. This was my first experience working in recruitment No idea what to do or how to do it Like many recruiters, I fell into it... I needed a job, I was told I could make £100k in my first year and it felt like a no-brainer "You're going to pay me to call people and then pay me even more if I get them a job?!" - I thought Boy I was wrong, I sucked at it and was fired within 6 weeks... As a Recruiter, when someone says, "I'm not interested", what they're really saying is: 1. I don't trust you (and what you tell me about new opportunity) 2. I don't like you (and thus wouldn't want to work with/ for anyone you're associated with) 3. I don't want to take a risk - I don't want to leave what I know for what I don't know 4. I'm comfortable - I don't feel like having to learn a whole new system, people, structure... too much trouble 5. I'm afraid that if I leave I won't be able to come back if the new thing doesn't work out as promised Did I miss anything? Hiring Manager: I'm not seeing the right candidate. I need to see more. Recruiter: But we are sending you people who reasonably match your job description. What's wrong with them? Hiring Manager: Yes, but they don't exactly fit the role. I need a superstar who can hit the ground running! Recruiter: We found a superstar. He works for a competitor in the same job. Hiring Manager: Yes! This is precisely what we are looking for! I'm sure he'd hit it out of the park for us! Recruiter: Great! But...he's not interested. Hiring manager: Why not!? This is a great job! Recruiter: Because it's a lateral move. He wants YOUR job. A true "superstar" candidate isn't going to accept a lateral move. They are looking to be challenged. Why not give the up-and-comer a chance instead? You may find yourself with a future superstar.

❤︎Please don't treat recruiters like punching bags.❤︎ If candidates submit a resume and don't hear back, some think we are villains (we can't reply to hundreds/thousands of applicants). If recruiters do reply back to job seekers to say they are not a fit, some candidates get upset because we don't give an explanation. If we give an explanation of how they fall short, some get upset because we gave them "unsolicited advice" or the feedback was inadequate. If one of the candidates up for the role doesn't get the job, some get upset and say we didn't "pitch them to the client correctly." Recruiters are also underappreciated by some of the clients too because we work for no money upfront, so about 75% of our week is chasing a commission we will never get (even after sending the clients unicorns). With no money upfront, it's mostly "tire kickers" just experimenting with hiring but doing it half-heartedly. There is no other industry in the world where people work for free like recruiters (with the hope of getting paid later). Sometimes we work for weeks or even months to fill a role, and then end up empty-handed. The lesson: recruiting is a partnership based on mutual respect (for both clients and candidates). All parties should have the right mindset and have mutual respect for each other. I know this is common sense, but it's worth a friendly reminder. Just know that recruiters truly want YOU to be the one, but we are dealing with very high pressure and unreasonable demands, and we do the best we can to "juggle". Statistically speaking, most of the candidates will come up empty-handed, and that's why it's such a thrill when the "planets line up" and a candidate is placed. I haven't made a post about this in a while, but as of today, here are my current statistics regarding unemployment since February 2024: 2 second round interviews 5 first round interviews 7 screening calls ====================== 124 applications submitted regarding Recruiting 36 applications submitted regarding Sourcing 14 applications submitted regarding Talent Acquisition Operations 32 applications submitted regarding Data Analytics 3 DEI programming oriented roles 41 applications submitted to local universities/colleges (not included in above stats) 17 customer experience roles 28 customer service roles 6 managerial/lead roles 2 process improvement roles ====================== Skills trained, improved, developed during this time: *SQL *PowerBI *Tableau *R *Mentorship and leadership skills *Learned ~30 new ASL signs *Grew 2 levels in German via Duolingo *Have a performance booked at a local club where I'm going to play an hour of live ambient and breakbeat music, alongside writing lighting sequences in Resolume *Journaling and Meditation It's disheartening to be suffering and, in spite of the weight of not being able to survive (let alone thrive), to continue moving forward, but that's all I got. Anyway, I love learning, teaching, and growing as a person. If you provide the stability, I'll provide the longevity.
