Greetings from sweltering Medford on the Sunday after Independence Day. Our faith leads us to tell the story of God’s presence in our lives (evangelize). We worshipped on the 7th Sunday after Pentecost offering a prayer that we can recognize God’s grace and love (be connected) with our whole heart. Our lesson from second Samuel recounts David’s accession to leader of all Israel while he recognizes God’s active presence in his life. The Psalmist offered our song that retells our understanding of God’s greatness and ability to break into the world as we experience it. Our Epistle from Paul’s second letter to the Corinthians invites us to remember our that our strength is not what makes us successful, rather that God’s strength found in our weakness changes lives – ours and others. The gospel from Mark is the story where Jesus is rejected as prophet in Nazareth because everyone “knows” him. That was followed up by Jesus sending the disciples to tell of the saving grace found in the gospel. In these stories we are invited to remember that change happens, and we can’t let our change hinder our ability to reach out to those whom we know. We also need to realize that we are called to evangelize – to tell our story (not someone else’s story) of God’s meaningful place in our lives. Not with perfection but in our own imperfect way. How do you live simply in those challenging attributes of your faith – your Christianity and your call to Evangelize?
