ETY (Egyptian/Tunisian/Yemenis) Cardiology T2T Mentorship Program
ETY (Egyptian/Tunisian/Yemenis) Cardiology T2T Mentorship Program is a collaborative project, formerly known as the EgSC Cardiac Academy Mentorship Program, is a comprehensive educational initiative involving the Egyptian Society of Cardiology, the Tunisian Society of Cardiology, and the Yemen Military Hospital. The program consists of three phases: Theoretical, workshops and simulations, and hospital attachments. The first phase has already been successfully completed. In addition to focusing on scientific knowledge and skills, the course also emphasizes character development, critical thinking, and teamwork. A book will be published annually, featuring cases discussed in the course from all three countries. These cases will be written by the trainees and peer-reviewed by their Mentors, serving as study material for future participants. The first book, authored and reviewed by 42 Egyptian professors, was the inaugural publication under the EgSC's name and served as study material for the first cohort of learners.
Phase 1 of the EgSC Cardiac Academy Mentorship Program is a six-month T2T (Trainee to Trainer) course that covers the ESC Cardiology Core Curriculum. It is designed to provide comprehensive education in cardiology, incorporating guidelines from ESC (European Society of Cardiology), AHA (American Heart Association), and Egyptian sources. The course utilizes a hybrid e-learning and flipped classroom approach. Throughout the program, cardiologists will engage in a total of 105 in-class hours and 147 hours of e-learning, pre- and post-class preparation, and self-study.
Phase 2 will consist of elective Workshops, & Phase 3 will consist of Hospital attachments, where the trainees will get the chance to experience work in all 3 countries as they rotate between the departments of subspecialties.
The learning methods employed in the program revolve around the flipped classroom technique, which includes collaborative case-based learning, role-playing, SNAPPS (Summarize, Narrow, Analyze, Probe, Plan, and Select), Think-Pair-Share, Audience Response Systems (ARS), and illness scripts. These methods are practiced within teams, emphasizing both the roles of team members and team leaders.
