Assisted the County of Sonoma in completing a jail system needs assessment in support of a successful application for State SB863 funds.

Kitchell teamed with the Owen Group to provide California Department of Transportation (CalTrans) and the Department of General Services (DGS) with a comprehensive maintenance analysis for the 10-year old facility. Kitchell teamed with the Owen Group to provide California Department of Transportation (CalTrans) and the Department of General Services (DGS) with a comprehensive maintenance analysis for the 10-year old facility. I was Project Manager for Kitchell as we evaluated existing documentation, business practices and utilization of their IBM Maximo CMMS system. We delivered our simple document management system that puts any historical or current project document just a few clicks away. We also provided CMMS utilization recommendations based on nationally recognized best practices and made significant maintenance system productivity recommendations. We developed training videos and a comprehensive user manual to support proper usage of IBM Maximo. We presented to DGS leadership the importance of Service Level Agreements (SLA) when developing post-report evaluations. Then we produced a comprehensive maintenance staffing and costs analysis report that identifies suggested staffing requirements, business practices, and a Preventive Maintenance (PM) plan. When completed, CalTrans will have industry supported benchmark recommendations and costs for their District 7 Headquarters facility maintenance program. Kitchell is providing multi-disciplinary design services for Solano County's SB1022 project. This project is very unique for a County detention facility and provides roughly 10,000 square feet of administrative and classrooms space, along with roughly 20,000 square feet of vocational training space. The County is taking the unique approach of cooperating with local businesses and the community college system to develop incubator spaces. These spaces will provide opportunities for local business enterprise to team with the incarcerated labor force. It is hoped the training will produce productive inside-outside relationships and job opportunities for the inmates upon release.

[04/01/2017 Update: This project utilized a very unique delivery method. Under recent California legislation, this project was procured as a best-value design-bid-build stipulated sum. The first of its kind known in the country. This delivery method provided cost certainty and design control to the owner. The contractors who participated were among the highest preferred. Citywide facility assessment of the parks system which includes 26 miles of oceanfront shoreline, 41,439 acres of developed and undeveloped park land, joint use and open space, 56 recreation centers, three golf courses, 13 swimming pools that serve millions of residents and visitors each year.

Principal in charge of creating MEP and Structural bridging documents for a significant jail expansion at the Lerdo facility in Kern County. The project is funded by AB900 funds.

Kitchell Latin America (KLA) partnered with Iglesias Pratt Architects (Santiago) to provide design services for a 3000 bed prison complex with five installations located in Copiapo, Chile. I acted as the US Design Manager. The complex includes a women's facility and four men's facilities to accommodate various security levels. This complex marks the first prison of its type in Chile that follows an operational model provided by KLA. The design process and requirements are very different from… Show more

This project required outside the box thinking on both the part of KLA, the Ministerio of Justicia (Ministry of Justice), and Ministerio de Obras Publicas (simlar to DGS or GSA). Kitchell is the engineer-of-record and commissioning authority for the 7,320 square foot interior tenant improvement known as the Welcome Center. The Welcome Center includes: a lobby and office space, a retail shop, conference rooms with a movable wall divider, and a presentation hall with seating for 120 people that includes a stage, and a green room.

Lead Value Analysis team through an all-day value charrette. The goal was to bring value to the taxpayer and increase the project value to the owner (AOC). We set priorities and worked alongside a very talented and highly regarded design team from Ross Drulis Cusenbery Architecture to establish a best value solution for all involved.

Assessed jail facility conditions for the County's jail system at two separate facilities. We projected bed and facility expansion needs for the next 20 years based on California's realignment of the prison system and demographics of the County.

Architect of Record for this 1,500 unit master plan including all single family residential units and 750 unit senior housing community that included a 20,000sf community center with aquatic center. Responsible for master planning, schematic design, site layout, entitlement coordination, construction documents and construction administration.

Architect of Record for this 7,500sf themed restaurant at 10th & K Street in Sacramento. Responsible for schematic design, construction documents and construction administration.

Architect of Record for this 22,000sf $6 million licensed adult residential care facility. Responsible for programming, design documentation, construction administration, coordination with community care licensing, and all documentation during the planning and entitlement, design and construction phases of this project.

Architect of Record for a 12,000sf $10 million community center with public pool and aquatic center. The multi-building project included a meeting hall for 300 people with warming kitchen, instructional rooms, a community “family” room with commercial kitchen and administrative offices. Supervising Principal in-charge of overall design, preparation of construction documents, and construction administration.

Architect of Record for this 100,000sf master-planned multi-phase mixed-occupancy church facility that includes multiple assembly venues, a gymnasium, classrooms, licensed day care, and food service. Phase I consisted of a 58,000sf main assembly area fully equipped for performing arts. Responsible for all aspects of master planning, programming, design, entitlements, constructability review, value engineering, and construction phase site visits.
