Once you send a document to review you took ownership of the whole deliverable even if you were not the one who prepared the calculation. You need to be able to explain all numbers 2. Don't pass work to reviewer until you think it is client ready. You’d be surprised how rarely this happens 3. If you are stuck. Ask for help. Spend 15-30 minutes to figure out a problem, but never more as you will slow down the project 4. Know how to hand check a work product 5. Become an expert in building and manipulating financial models. Do not skip this step. This applies to Associates. 6. Do models and analyses in parallel with your mentor and compare what you did to what they did and reconcile 7. Get in the weeds. It'll help you later. 8. Don't develop holes in your arsenal: flow of funds, stock options, working capital analyses, overlaying financing options on top of an m&a model, etc. 9. Reviewing live is much faster than reviewing alone and writing long review notes 10. Positioning: think of talk track how you would connect the slides, be creative. Meet Andres Mucci '24, a senior finance and entrepreneurship double major from Brazil! 🇧🇷 Andres had a great internship experience at Rimrock Capital Management, LLC, where he conducted comprehensive research into future inflation. He says the time spent in CBA's Finance Learning Lab familiarizing himself with the Bloomberg Terminals gave him an advantage over his internship peers, allowing him to focus more on the daily operations of the fund instead of spending time on data retrieval. 👍 The internship also gave Andres the opportunity to study the potential of China to surpass the U.S. as the world's leading economy. Overall, he made many beneficial connections and gained valuable hands-on experience in a fixed-income hedge fund. Thrilled to share that I've been accepted into MIT's Masters in Finance program this summer! 🎉 Out of the five major universities I applied to, I also received offers from Columbia University and the University of Chicago. Here are three key lessons I learned during the application process: 1. It's more than just an application form; it's your life story. If you don’t believe in your narrative, no one else will. 2. Choose the right universities to apply. When selecting universities, consider those that align with your career goals. Review the course curriculum, exposure opportunities, and fee structure to ensure they match your aspirations and financial plans. 3. Plan and organise meticulously. Goldman Sachs hires JPMorgan’s co-head of European M&A Is this another sign that in 2024 deal making is picking up? As reported in Financial News Goldman Sachs has now hired two partners from JPMorgan to tackle private equity M&A work. Goldman has hired JPMorgan’s co-head of M&A in Europe as the Wall Street bank makes a fresh push in its coverage of private equity companies. Goldman has taken on Carsten Woehrn, who also co-leads JPMorgan’s strategic investor group M&A team globally, according to people familiar with the matter. He will join as a partner within their London M&A team. This means they have now hired JPMorgan’s two top M&A investment bankers covering financial sponsor clients in the space of a week, having already poached Haidee Lee in the US earlier in April. The move signals a major push by the bank in its coverage of private equity companies, which have largely remained on the sidelines during a two-year slump in M&A deals that has forced investment banks to cut thousands of jobs.
