Vehicle cost, slow rollout of charging stations nationally, high repair costs, uninsurable after accidents, home utility capacity limits, and feature overload have added a ton of friction for EV adoption. The biggest barrier in my opinion is the lack of universal access to reliable, ultra-low cost power for every home & parking lots across the country. Ore Energy, emerged from stealth with €10 million in seed funding from Positron Ventures and other investors. The money will help it on its quest to make grid-scale batteries not just cheaper, but also longer lasting. Lithium-ion batteries are plentiful thanks to automotive demand but still awfully expensive. In the future, Ore Energy envisions these batteries being made of cheap, abundant iron. The batteries release energy by rusting iron and store it by reversing that corrosion. Unlike other batteries that are shipped with all the necessary chemicals inside, Ore Energy’s do not. Instead, they draw one of their key reactants, oxygen, from the atmosphere. SODA.Auto's recent announcement of a subscription model for their SODA.Validate testing and validation environment is certainly a step in the right direction. SODA.Auto's approach, with options starting at £1,000 per month, makes validation more accessible, especially for smaller players - which is a good sign. However, a few questions linger. First, is the per-month subscription truly cheaper than ownership over a typical validation project lifecycle? Second, Can SODA.Validate's subscription model cater to the specific needs of diverse projects, or will it primarily suit standardized testing scenarios? Lastly, true transformation hinges on transparency. Sharing detailed information on cost comparisons, customization capabilities, and hardware integration would strengthen their value proposition. I remain optimistic about SODA.Auto's subscription model, however, will keep a close eye on how they combine affordability, flexibility, and seamless integration. The Wall Street Journal & Christopher Mims are out with a telling tale of how far off #evs are. In short 5-10 years IF the #batterytechnology stays on current development times, if the charging infrastructure can even keep these juiced up if theses schedules hold. Electric truck manufacturer Harbinger says they've done 4,000 pre-orders. This news is an excellent reminder that the electrification of heavy fleet is coming, and it's going to have a profound effect on the real estate industry. Charging electric trucks is a different beast than fueling them up with gasoline, and it's going to take real estate with sufficient power and infrastructure to handle the charging. EV Realty (in Fifth Wall portfolio) is one example of a company that recognizes the opportunity in EV fleet charging, and why it's ultimately a real estate problem. #realestate #EVs

Detroit #automotive engineers tear down a BYD seagull and claim it's an "extinction-level event" for legacy auto! No matter your political opinion, #EV is the future! From Ford Motor Company to #Mercedes, they have scaled back #electricvehicles in a major way while Chinese OEMs like GEELY are full steam ahead. From #fasteners to #castings from IDRA GROUP, Chinese EV has copied Tesla every step of the way and could put major auto out of business. I don't know who this guy is, so take his political opinions and take on EV with a grain of salt. https://lnkd.in/gF6Yj36T

A few of you have heard me say this; energy storage needs to ramp up, battery or other methods (thermal, potential, kinetic). Of course, the large battery pack in every EV can help be part of the solution for peak shaving when bi-directional chargers become common. Charge your EV during the day during peak solar (yes, expanded workplace charging will be required) and power your home with your EV in the 5pm-9pm timeframe. My home electricity time-of-use plan charges double the rate during the peak evening hours. So even taking into consideration the conversion inefficiencies, I would still save significant money using an EV to power my home during the peak hours. I've seen 6kW-8kW being typical of a peak power requirement to power the HVAC, lights, kitchen appliances, TV, computers, etc. which is the same ballpark as Level 2 charging; which is to say, the battery pack won't even blink.

There’s palpable concern in the battery industry right now about: 1) What the true cost of batteries will be 2) How long it takes to ramp new factories, and 3) Managing the risk of potentially integrating (almost too) cheap batteries into products To navigate these turbulent early innings of the battery industry, you need to understand your batteries' performance faster than your competitors. You need real-time visibility to the cells coming off your manufacturing line. What cells are defective and why? What cells are good? And do those cells, modules and packs you are qualifying meet your warranty requirements? The answers lie in your existing battery charging and discharging data from right after the battery is manufactured – essentially the battery's first "heartbeats" – to rapidly identify defects. This translates to: Efficient cell production - Identifying and removing defective batteries in hours, not weeks, significantly accelerating factory ramp-up. Improved quality & validation testing - Detecting quality issues months earlier than traditional methods, streamlining testing and preventing costly launch delays and recalls. Only those that learn and adapt fast will be able to ramp up and launch products quickly, decrease scrap rates and costly returns, and drop BOM and operations costs to be cost competitive long term.

"GM's future vehicle lineup will be guided by customer demand." Translation: "If consumers aren't demanding vehicles that run on electricity, GM won't be pushing EVs too hard." Widespread EV adoption hinges on consumers being confident in and wanting to buy vehicles that run on electricity as fuel. If consumers are forced to educate themselves on the complexities of electrical engineering and have zero advertising about "electricity as a fuel", then be prepared for legacy automakers to use "lack of EV demand" as an excuse to not accelerate EV adoption. It's time to change to conversation. Rivian just announced they're opening their charging stations (Rivian Adventure Network) to all electric vehicles, not just their own. This means you'll soon be able to charge your electric car, regardless of the brand, at Rivian stations. They're even designing new chargers with different plugs to fit more vehicles. Rivian is also looking to expand their network significantly, aiming for over 3,500 chargers across the US! This could make road trips with your electric car a lot easier. What do you think? Feedback to a Great Article: After just returning from a trip to Sicily, Italy with my two kids, 16 and 19 years old, and Husband. 🇮🇹 I found having the ability to use our Google Wallet for purchases and to know that our Maryland Driver Licenses had been transferred to mDL format; our information was safe and reduced the need to pull out our physical wallet in many places. As Ian Grossman states it is possible through this technology. I felt that purchases could be made more discreetly in towns that were unsafe with high theft rates. Thanks for this article the education is whats behind these changes to be moved forward and to include fraud education and prevention. 💡 I wonder how quickly other DMVs will adopt mDL and what year we think majority of the vehicle titling and registration transactions will utilize this as a proof of identity? Ohio’s OHID program is a step ahead of the curve 🚙 check that out!

🔋No, EV sales aren't declining—they're just aligning with reality. 🚗 Despite recent setbacks like Tesla's job cuts and Tritium®'s troubles, the electric vehicle industry, by the numbers, continues to expand and remains strong. However, what is occurring is that the sector is finally confronting its unrealistic expectations with the reality of actual demand. To bridge this gap and accelerate the transition, three key problems must be addressed: ➡️ EV sales network readiness and motivation 😪 ➡️ Charging Infrastructure location and availability📍 ➡️ The role and the responsibility of corporate fleets 🚛 This made me think of writing this article about the solutions we see and we’ve been working on for years at Voltaage.
