  • LBE 30th Anniversary

    -

For 30 years, La Banda Elástica has documented the evolution of a scene in ways unseen in any other publication. LBE stayed ahead of the curve as trends in the Latin alternative scene, media, and technology changed, becoming one of the first publications in the U.S. in the 90s to start a website. The LBE team also branched into radio with the creation of its own online station, as well as video with the “Hecho En Casa” series.

The 30th anniversary of La Banda Elástica comes in the form of a book-zine and is filled with pertinent reflections on the evolution of the scene over the last three decades. It recently premiered at the prestigious FIMPRO conference in Mexico, as well as at the Latin GRAMMYs in Las Vegas. The special edition will continue its premiere tour at the Feria del Libro in Tijuana on December 10, 2022.

On March 24 while people were demonstrating across the world against gun violence, a small group met for a very different experience: listening to, and trying to learn from, people who have vastly different perspectives on the role of guns in America. They were men and women, teenagers and retirees, from different religions, races and ethnicities. They were kicking off an unusual project that will soon expand to include another 130 people selected from 900 applicants who have committed to a month-long, moderated Facebook conversation, in which they will examine the role of guns in America across partisan and social lines, asking: Can we get past our differences and talk with one another where it really matters? Guns, an American Conversation was a project organized by a coalition of news-focused organizations–led by Advance Local, along with Spaceship Media, the Newseum, Time magazine and Reveal from the Center for Investigative Reporting.
