Remembering #ForgottenRoutes and work that got left behind. Crafting different brand concepts for our clients is probably the favourite bit of my job. Something solid, something inspiring, something that makes them even feel a little uncomfortable (as that's often where the magic happens). Unearthing a great concept and brand idea to refer to throughout the process is key to creating something unforgettable. I'm going to be sharing some of the routes that didn't quite make it past the posts but are worth celebrating. Gone but never forgotten.

Why is hiring a creative so expensive? Well, it’s simple. 1. The Strategy Often overlooked when hiring someone. Sure, many creators can make content “look cool” with advanced technology and AI, but is there a true purpose and story behind what you’re creating? Is it engineered correctly to achieve your desired outcome (vitality, sales, brand awareness, etc.)? A killer strategy only comes from those who live, eat, and breathe this stuff. It often requires experience in trying, failing, innovating, and trying again. 2. Cost of Creating Trust me, I wish camera gear, lighting, and all the gizmos were cheaper too. One day they might be, but we're not willing to sacrifice the quality of the content we create to save a few bucks. Quality matters if you want to be perceived as someone who truly cares.

Nope, they're not the same thing. Yes, you need both. A brand without a Brand Identity can be visually exciting but has no clear purpose. A brand without a Visual Identity is going to be harder to remember or recognise. If one is missing, underwhelming, or just plain bad - your branding won’t work. Your Brand Identity is: 📖 Story 🧭 Ideals ✒️ Name 🤩 Personality 🎙️ Communication Your Visual Identity is: 🐉 Logo ♠️ Icons 🎨 Colours 🏁 Patterns 🔠 Typography 📸 Photography (Basically anything visual) Understanding the difference is key to building an effective brand that both creates feelings and is remembered. THE SQUEAKY WHEEL GETS THE GREASE If you're a designer who hasn't launched a portfolio site - there's no more excuses. If you're a designer who's scared to post work publicly because of what people might think - there's no more excuses. If you're a designer who sits back, does the work and doesn't speak up - there's no more excuses. With the rise of AI enabled tools, the quiet designers are likely to disappear. It's no longer a game of just "making cool stuff". You need to speak up, stand out, post content, spill knowledge, provide strategy, give value, and do things that create revenue and growth. Take the leap, gain some new skills, & put yourself out there!

But we're staying true to the premise of the show, by exploring the question: Why do some social impact brands thrive, while so many others fail to get traction, build support for their cause, and make meaningful progress towards their mission? The North Star Effective branding can work like a guiding light above you. This was something that a client recently said, that the work we did building the identity for her Glamping enterprise was a “North Star”. She felt that doing the work with me to define the brand now allows her to: - Know the direction to take the business. - Have the ethos and approach set out and defined for the next steps in front of her. - Act in confidence on how to express what she is trying to do. - Scale the business and get everyone on board quickly with what the enterprise is trying to achieve and how. As well as visual design, we worked on who it was she was trying to reach, the values and principals behind the business, personality and positioning. Humane AI Pins were chilled before demonstrations as they were known to overheat. Paragraph from NYT article on the failure of this product. Reminded of how much ‘make it, fake it’ is embedded into technology industry and client journalism. There are so many stories from Apple, Theranos and others about showing magical products using trickery. The product demonstrations are theater shows not information events. This is the inverse of Osborning. That company failed by talking too soon about its future improved products and thus collapsed sales with its functional existing line. Now companies simply show partially functional products in hope that they will be usable by time of delivery. “Never buy V 1.0” is about the only defense nowadays.
