Data is a powerful tool for understanding women's health needs and experiences. My colleague Dr. David Fairchild, Dr. William F. Rayburn (Medical University of South Carolina) and I recently published a paper about women's retail health clinic visits in the Journal of Women's Health.  Looking at five years of data from CVS MinuteClinics, we found that women, especially of reproductive age, are more likely than men to seek care at retail clinics. This is a helpful insight, considering women can face additional social and economic barriers to the care they need. Acute care was the highest need addressed at women's visits. We also found that immunizations, infection screening and treatment and reproductive health issues accounted for a significant number of visits by women. We meet women where they are and when it’s most convenient, and continuously assess our MinuteClinic services with data-informed decisions to help women get the care they need. https://lnkd.in/eKnH9tbm

🎯 Fact from the RAND 5.0 study 💹 Facility fees accounted for approximately 80 percent of outpatient spending and 91 percent of inpatient spending. ⏩ What can an employer do with this insight to control healthcare costs? One use case: It can be difficult to gain access to facility, professional, and anesthesia rate data to showcase an analysis of current BUCA network rates vs. bundled pricing independent practice cash rates for surgical procedures. However, with this data from RAND, you could feel more confident directionally speaking with an analysis if you just had access to facility fees to showcase savings to an employer and extrapolate from there. Preserving the Status Quo - At Our Expense This is a great post from Travis Davis. He is exactly right. It is a slap in the face for Mercer to publish such a slanted article. This is exactly why so many employers have been conditioned to believe the "Big Lie", that our healthcare system is broken and there is nothing they can do about it. One-sided information pushed by the Big House "consultants"/brokerages and Big Health Insurance companies (who pay them big bonuses to do this) is constantly fed to employers to perpetuate the "Big Lie" and preserve their business model, one steeped in complexity, obfuscation, and deceit. One that delivers record profits to the Big Health Insurance companies and their healthcare industry partners. Just read this article for just a few examples.

#ICYMI Researchers at the Elevance Health Public Policy Institute studied Medicare data to understand how beneficiaries’ use of #MedicareAdvantage supplemental benefits impacts healthcare utilization. The results found that the use of supplemental benefits is associated with an increased likelihood of receiving certain preventative healthcare screenings, and a decreased likelihood of having an inpatient admission, among other findings.
