Here's how you can navigate the emotional impact of a layoff and maintain motivation during your job search.
I have been impacted twice by a layoff since 2016. Losing a job is far more than losing income. It is losing identity, losing purpose and losing self worth. After what must have a short mourning period (unless you are fortunate enough to have a partner and savings), I found the key to be turning the job search into a full-time job. This requires searching websites such as Indeed, Monster, Career Builder (and so many others) every single day. Keeping detailed notes on each job for which you have submitted a resume or application, and being prepared for calls by having information about each job at your fingertips every time the phone rings. It’s about taking temporary jobs to make ends meet until THE job comes. Discipline and focus.
