    At the beginning, with less than 30 teams applying and a huge outpouring of community, business, academic, and volunteer enthusiasm, the program initially focused on student entrepreneurship at MIT and then expanded rapidly to the larger community. The Ignite Clean Energy program was instrumental to entrepreneurs in the cleantech space for over six years.
    In 2010, Ignite expanded its reach and impact by joining forces with the national organization Cleantech Open, creating the largest cleantech innovation footprint in the country.
    Today, Cleantech Open Northeast still fosters strong ties to previous partnering organizations and sponsors, including the MIT Clean Energy Prize, Plano & Simple, and Fraunhofer CSE.

  • Mississippi River Hydrokinetic Turbine Deployment

    After completing our indoor water flume verification tests at the USGS Conte Labs (Turner Falls, MA), we shipped the 3-meter prototype turbine down to Louisiana, fitted it to a custom floating test platform and then towed it out to the Mississippi River main channel downstream from Baton Rouge where we moored it at a Dow Chemical industrial dock. The video shows the turbine being lowered into the river on a winching system and you can see it started generating immediately. It generated…

The video shows the turbine being lowered into the river on a winching system and you can see it started generating immediately. It generated continuously 24-a-day during the summer 2011 and then was returned to our shipyard in September. The testing successfully verified the turbine efficiency, the bearing system performance, and the rock solid base load renewable energy resource in the Mississippi.
