What do you do if your motivation is waning in your mid-career?
Also consider taking one more step in the environmental adjustment process. Take some time off and travel to a place where you have never visited before. Go to a country that you have always wanted to see, and take the time to pack your camera, your digital devices, your sketchbook, your journal, and your open mind. Now it is a real change of scenery, language, food and more. You will thank yourself afterwards for taking this big step outward and upward.

What do you do if you want to showcase your creative thinking during an environmental design interview?
I would pose this additional thought and question: Did you know that back in 1966, when the ideas of saving our Earth were just beginning to form, Stewart Brand's publishing efforts with the Whole Earth Catalog, were suffused with an awareness of the importance of ecology, both as a field of study and as an influence upon the future of humankind and emerging human awareness? That is the kind of thinking and dreaming that we are in need of today. Think about that for a bit.

How can you maintain student attention during a lecture?
I have found that it helps to consider the following: - engage the students in solving problem activities using small groups or teams and having presentations. - engage the students with a mixture of media, such as video clips, photos, live drawing and painting, constructive presentations, and narratives - bring in subject matter experts and guest speakers to join by Zoom and allow for Q and A - first class have students present their life story in a diagram form, and later make sure to note attendance and attention and mention specific items connected to students such as hometowns or countries of other relevant data. - make sure to smile, add humor to the class, tell a joke or mention what happened in your own past life for comparison.

How can Interior Designers stay adaptable in a constantly changing industry?
I have had a rich diverse career in the design business, working in places like Japan, China, Thailand and the U.S. Like the tech and fashion world, the ever-changing interior design industry can be daunting, and it is prudent to keep a continuous exploration of the world. From my viewpoint, I recommend traveling to a new country or place every year, push your horizons, learn new languages, and study local architecture. You will find that you can draw inspiration from many sources – travel, film, literature, music and technology. And as an designer, you should try to draw and paint the new places you go, maybe in a sketchbook journal whether it is digital or analog, a valuable tool for learning, documenting, exploring and sharing.

Twenty Drawings from Japan
Kindle Direct Publishing
For many people, the country of Japan remains a real mystery that can only be revealed when you visit the islands and begin to experience the range of sights, sounds, colors, food and the people. My first visit to Japan was the year 1991. I try to return at least once a year to visit new places, to return to familiar spaces, eat fabulous food and meet up with good friends. And to allow time for drawing and painting the remarkable settings.

My first visit to Japan was the year 1991. I try to return at least once a year to visit new places, to return to familiar spaces, eat fabulous food and meet up with good friends. And to allow time for drawing and painting the remarkable settings.
This collection of drawings are from various travels in the country. Most of the drawings were created on an iPad using a stylus with apps from Sketches Pro and Adobe Draw. -
