We are entering an unprecedented period of accountability when it comes to safe healthcare staffing. The CMS (center for Medicare and Medicaid services) just announced a minimum hour requirement in which care must be provided to patients in long term care! This means an elevated level of personalized care for patients who, at times, see the least consistent level of support. The pandemic saw higher death rates in nursing homes and this is a clear response to long needed changes in this area. Thought not everyone loves the ruling. The problem: many facilities lack the staff needed to support the new regulation and are already struggling to compete with higher paying roles. Healthcare hiring is evolving.
