Tips & Tools for Managing Your Course Assets. People ask why pay for Articulate Storyline 360 and one answer is you also have several tools along with the authoring abilities of Storyline. While it does seem like a lot at one time, your subscription includes images, characters, icons, illustrations, not to mention quiz maker, and the ability to use REVIEW. That is a web-based tool where you can share your projects with anyone, they can make comments and you use that to revise the project. You also have access to RISE 360 a web-based design program. Articulate Storyline is a fantastic and robust authoring tool. I've been teaching folks how to use Storyline for over a decade and am as jazzed about seeing new users excited about the possibilities. However, learning new skills can be overwhelming and intimidating with so many options. I often get asked, "Can I do this...?" or "Is it possible to do that...?" The answer is usually always yes, but the question is really a design question and not a development question. The questions that should be asked are "Why should I do this?" and "Will this add value to the learning experience?" These are hard questions to answer when in the throws of skill development. My approach to teaching Storyline is to separate those modes of thought, guide participants through conceptual thinking and logic, and focus on the behaviors of the tool's capabilities and limitations. Only then can one truly explore all the possibilities and expand their skills. This Storyline Sketchnote explores the idea of interacting with two independent objects while adjusting three number variables, two of which are simultaneously random numbers. What could I use this for? That's not the point (for now). The point is to learn the tool, how it behaves, what works, and what doesn't. If we constantly think of when and why we would develop something in Storyline, we will consistently restrict creative exploration. Besides, it's just fun! If you are new to Articulate Storyline, you can benefit from learning to build a course from a template. While that sounds like a great idea, you may not have enough experience to do just that. In this case, Allison LaMotte has provided a great tutorial as well.

Developers then use authoring tools to transform these storyboards into published files. However, the need for IDs to directly input their content into authoring tools like Articulate is growing. Here’s why this shift is becoming increasingly important. 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗜𝗗𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗼𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀? • Efficiency and Speed   • Enhanced Accuracy   • Increased Flexibility   • Better Collaboration   • Skill Development  𝗚𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀 Training: Take advantage of online courses and tutorials on tools like Articulate to build proficiency. A typical eLearning project for us is something like 10 to 12 weeks. Obviously, a lot of factors go into this. It can be less. It can be more. But, I'm always surprised when someone says they think an eLearning course should just take a couple of weeks because that leaves a lot of steps out. For example, is the content ready? The answer is often no. So, we'll need to either wait for it or help figure it out. Even if it's considered ready, content often comes in as a static PowerPoint or basic script. Is something simple sufficient for the objective, or is this an initiative where we should add consultative instructional design, maybe write scenarios, include applicable interactive elements, add a thoughtful quiz? They typically want it to be engaging and meaningful. We recommend a storyboard before development. That adds additional review cycles. Are you the only reviewer? Very few people are the only reviewer. Are the other reviewers available and quick to respond? Well, ... (Often get a facial grimace here.) Notice that we haven't even gotten into the development cycles yet. There's some data behind that 10 to 12 weeks.
