Congratulations to BCG Henderson Institute (BHI) Fellow Sagar Goel and BHI Ambassador Orsolya Kovacs on winning the 2023 HBR Prize! The HBR Prize, judged by an independent panel of business and academic leaders with input from members of HBR’s Advisory Board, spotlights the most outstanding article published each year in Harvard Business Review. As a part of their BHI research, Sagar and Orsi co-authored a study on how companies are reskilling their employees in a rapidly evolving era of automation and AI. For their article “Reskilling in the Age of AI,” Sagar and Orsolya, together with Jorge Tamayo, Leila Doumi, and Raffaella Sadun, interviewed leaders at some 40 organizations around the world that are investing in large-scale reskilling programs. Getting the right data to the right people at the right time and in the right format is important in all organizations. At public health agencies this can be especially critical. In this article, my colleagues Connor Norwood, Saumya Singh, Keerthana Sundar and Hrishika Vuppala outline four key dimensions adapted from the McKinsey DRIVE framework for US state public health agencies that could help strengthen their data governance approach. Generative AI in Asia Pacific : a unique market research by #Deloitte We recently conducted a survey focused on tech-savvy, young employees known as 'Generation AI', who are leading the adoption of #GenAI across the Asia Pacific region. The report surveyed a huge 11,900 individuals comprising of 2,903 students and 9,042 employees across 13 locations in #AsiaPacific and it highlights how GenAI is transforming work practices, resulting in saved work hours, new skills development opportunities, more sustainable workloads and increased productivity. A recent survey by Accenture indicates a significant decline in personal AI usage among business leaders. However, they are still enthusiastic about investing in AI for their organizations. According to Manish Sharma, CEO of Accenture North America, “C-suite leaders recognize two things, one, that they themselves need to understand gen AI and, two, that there is a need for widespread gen AI training across the organization." My 40th weekly article was inspired by a recent conversation with Raja SP from AWS and further reinforced by the article in the Straits Times on how business enterprises are missing the mark on their implementation of Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen AI). It seems organisations underestimate the requirements and overestimate the business impact of their Gen AI use case. Many organisations are focusing on customer-facing chatbots as early use cases for Gen AI, but I feel that's a mistake. In the 30 years of industries piloting and implementing 'traditional AI', there are some parallels that can help shed some insights into how organisations can approach Gen AI use cases instead. Global Capability Centers (GCCs) have evolved to strategic talent hubs co-leading core business functions such as R&D, product design and engineering, technology innovation including the reinvention of work and experiences with AI and GenAI. A recent Nasscom report shows 60% of GCCs performing work in these areas. It’s all about access to digital first talent at scale (and oh by the way, it costs less, but not the reason for doing it…all about the talent).
