A Lot Changes in a Year
The pictures from Superstorm Sandy show debris standing in mountains, disaster so thorough it was almost impossible to figure out where the rebuilding process would start. We’ve had the opportunity to help clear the debris, and the chance to document some of the stories involved with that work. I’m happy to share them with you on the anniversary of the storm.

Route 31 Dualization, Hunterdon County, NJ

Project Manager for the $70-million dualization of 8 miles of a two-lane state highway. Involved four new bridges, six new culverts, nine signalized intersections, seven water quality basins and wetland mitigation plans. The existing two-lane roadway was widened to five lanes at the major intersections. Over 100 driveways line the corridor, many of which were modified under the Access Code. Required utility relocations including sanitary sewer, including a pump station, water mains and…

A split roadway profile was utilized to minimize impacts to the South Branch of the Raritan River.

Project Manager for the rehabilitation of a divided six-lane 7.2-mile extension of the Interstate highway that provided for complete interchanges at State Route 23 and at County Route 694 (Paterson-Hamburg Turnpike). The existing interchange at U.S. Route 202 was also improved and reconstructed. Also included construction of six highway grade separation structures, one railroad separation structure, and 865-foot, 8-span dual bridges. Services for this $160 million project included highway…

Dewberry
The award was recently presented by Chairman Barry K. Dewberry in recognition of Johnson’s management expertise and professional leadership. Dewberry’s achievement award is named in memory of Harold Williams, PE, CLS, a principal and director of special projects for the firm for 20 years until his death in 1987. Presented annually to a Dewberry employee, the award recognizes excellence in managerial and leadership skills, dedication to the firm and the profession, mentoring of colleagues…
