DJI drones provide opportunities for so many people in every sector, including agriculture. However, HR 2864 (i.e. the Countering CCP Drones Act) is a bill that could potentially revoke the FCC licensing for DJI and other Chinese-manufactured drones, essentially ensuring that no new DJI products could be approved in the U.S. going forward, and potentially grounding DJI drones currently approved for use in the U.S. We urge you to write your lawmakers in opposition of this bill: https://lnkd.in/gHg2fwx8

Matt Sheehan: Thanks for sharing. One potential use case of Geospatial AI could be dynamic routing, like planning the best paths using AI for emergency vehicles and delivery trucks. By analyzing up-to-date information on road blockages, damaged roads, and weather, the AI can find the most efficient routes. This could help get critical personnel and supplies to where they're needed quickly, even when normal travel routes are disrupted.

Daily Update From USGS-HVO, Eruption Remains Paused And Unlikely To Restart Volcanic Activity Summary: The eruption that began southwest of Kīlauea summit on June 3, 2024, has been paused for 48 hours and is unlikely to restart. Accordingly, the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO) is lowering the Volcano Alert Level for ground-based hazards from WATCH to ADVISORY and the Aviation Color Code from ORANGE to YELLOW. Lava stopped erupting from the fissure vents at approximately 9:00 a.m. HST on June 3 and lava flows stagnated by noon that day. Tremor, degassing, and incandescence associated with the fissure vents have decreased substantially over the past 48 hours, making it unlikely that the eruption will resume. Overall seismicity and deformation in the summit region including the eruption area remain very low. While decreasing, volcanic gas emissions at the eruption site remain well above background levels (100 tonnes per day), with a sulfur dioxide emission rate of 5,500 tonnes per day measured yesterday, June 4, down from 12,000-15,000 tonnes per day on June 3. The last eruption in this area occurred in December 1974. The 1974 eruption was continuous for six hours before the eruption ended, compared to 8.5 hours for this recent eruption. HVO continues to closely monitor Kīlauea for signs of renewed activity. Should volcanic activity change significantly, a new Volcanic Activity Notice will be issued. All recent activity has occurred within the summit and upper rift zone regions. No unusual activity has been detected in the middle or lower East Rift Zone. Hazards are still present on Kīlauea and are described below, but elevated sulfur dioxide gas emissions are likely to be persistent for days or weeks. Residents and visitors should stay informed and follow Hawaii County and Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park guidelines. Hazard Analysis: Kīlauea eruptive activity on June 3 occurred within the closed area of Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park. High level of volcanic gas—primarily water vapor (H2O), and sulfur dioxide (SO2)—being emitted is the primary hazard of concern, as this hazard can have far-reaching effects downwind. As SO2 is released from the summit, it reacts in the atmosphere to create the visible haze known as vog (volcanic smog) that has been observed downwind of Kīlauea. Vog creates the potential for airborne health hazards to residents and visitors, damages agricultural crops and other plants, and affects livestock. As reported in Daily Maverick: 🧊 Russia's state marine geology institute, a Rosgeo research partner, has a department dedicated to studying the "geology and mineral resources of Antarctica". (Source: VNIIOkeangeologia's website — https://bit.ly/3R3doUm) 🧊 According to Rosgeo's Antarctic subsidiary, the Polar Marine Geosurvey Expedition (PMGE), its surveys are also “geopolitical”. This “guarantees Russia’s full participation in any form of possible future development of Antarctic mineral resources”. A much as 70% of California was covered by wildfire smoke during parts of 2020 and 2021, according to a study from the University of California, Davis. The study, published today in the journal Communications: Earth & Environment, combined lake-based sensors with satellite imagery to find that maximum smoke cover has increased by about 116,000 square miles since 2006. The study measured lake responses to wildfire smoke in 2018, 2020 and 2021 — the three largest fire seasons on record in California. It found the lakes were exposed on average to 33 days of high-density smoke between July and October, with August and September having the highest number of smoky days. Bear Lake Watch Special Collection The Bear Lake Watch Special Collection of documents and other Bear River-related information is housed in the S.J. and Jessie E. Quinney Natural Resources Research Library and the Utah State University Special Collections and Archives. This database aims to provide reviewed reports from the work of water scientists, engineers, managers, policy-makers, and concerned citizens. These reports represent experts from academia, industry, and other entities. The Quinney Library has digitized numerous documents in an effort to preserve and collate the materials and provide easy access where possible. When possible, this anthology will contain the full-text PDF of each document for online viewing or downloading. Additionally, for those items not available for full-text access, the site will provide a complete citation, including links when plausible. Bear Lake Watch, incorporated in 1994, is dedicated to conserving and utilizing Bear Lake's waters. The issues at Bear Lake are diverse and multifaceted, and Bear Lake Watch aims to foster positive discussions and networks among stakeholders. Anyone can view and submit projects in the database, but only current Bear Lake Watch volunteers can validate the information. Projects not yet validated will not show.
