Are you a Dualie? If you are, then you could be key to strengthening long-term participation in the game. In short, the National Golf Foundation define a dualie is a golfer who plays both on-course and off-course golf. Not content with a regular 18, they use a simulator, visit the range, or head down to a Top Golf or a Big Shots in between rounds. I’ve seen several reports recently about the consistent growth of off-course golf. And I’ve heard a fair bit of concern from the industry on whether it will weaken participation in the traditional game. I’ve always thought otherwise – so it’s great to see this report suggesting I was right 😊 When we see golfers taking lessons, or hitting the range we know that the number of rounds they play goes up – we’ve measured it. We know that when we can help engage golfers in activities around the club other than playing golf, the number of rounds they play goes up – we’ve measured it. So it has always followed in my head that when golfers hit balls for leisure, the number of rounds they play will go up. In addition, this report shows that they are more committed to traditional golf, their ability level is higher, they spend more money on equipment, and - the number of rounds they play goes up! I think there’s also a great argument that off course golf is a fantastic entry point for many people too. 🏀 In the National Basketball Association (NBA), Effective Field Goal Percentage (eFG%) can quickly tell you which team is having more success from the field. Teams increasingly rely on three-point shooting. Understanding eFG% helps coaches and analysts see the true impact of players who excel at shooting from beyond the arc, compared to those who focus on two-pointers. In the world of club leadership, success is often measured in tangible terms: participation growth, increased revenue or budget achievement, and even facility upgrades. While these external indicators are important, a sustainable sense of personal fulfillment may require a broader view of success. Chasing the next metric (or even the next 'like' on social media) might result in a quick sense of a 'win', but can only end with the frustration of 'what's next'? Welcome to the New Era: Top Pitching Prospects as Glorified Long Relievers—The Shift Away from Traditional Starting Pitchers. Welcome to the Show, Paul Skenes, and congratulations on a successful Major League Baseball (MLB) League Debut. I want to see Paul Skenes be a workhorse for the Pittsburgh Pirates, sit at the top of the rotation, accumulate innings, and help propel the Pirates into the playoffs. He's a number one overall pick for a reason; he has more current and potential value than any other prospect in baseball. Let him pitch, and pitch more than his peers. However, Skenes and other top pitching prospects are on strict pitch count limits, and they are given limited workloads to help monitor their recovery and perhaps keep them healthy. This widespread trend in baseball neither fosters the development of starting pitchers nor ensures their health; it just limits their value to their team and future earning potential. Paul Skenes, baseball's #1 pitching prospect, has averaged 3.93 innings and 63 pitches per start this year. How about other top pitching projects? Jackson Jobe, the #2 pitching prospect, has averaged 3.24 innings and 58 pitchers per start this year. Cade Horton, the #3 pitching prospect, has averaged 3.85 innings and 63 pitches per start this year. Jacob Misiorowski, the #5 pitching prospect, has averaged 3.7 innings and 70 pitches per start this year. Rhett Lowder, the #6 pitching prospect, has averaged 4.87 innings and 75 pitches per start this year. Robby Snelling, the #7 pitching prospect, has averaged 4.43 innings and 75 pitches per start this year. Noah Schultz, the #8 pitching prospect, has averaged 3.85 innings and 59 pitches per start this year. Notice a pattern? And not one of these pitchers has thrown 100 pitches in a game nor exceeded six innings in any start. The standard job expectations have shifted. Pitch counts are entirely arbitrary, and as pitch counts have been reduced over the years, we have seen more injuries and fewer household names in each city. With all the analysts hired to gain a competitive advantage, it looks like a copycat system being deployed throughout baseball. What needs to be discussed is the potential impact on a starting pitcher's future financial value when used like a reliever in long-term contract negotiations. This trend only changes if one MLB organization produces three younger starting pitching prospects who can carry the torch for multiple years and prove they win at a higher level. It's still possible but less possible in leadership that drives baseball decision-making. #startingpitcher #mlb #value

Feeling inspired after our first Excelerator (young professional leadership development program) Brunch 'N Learn event, with SFIA - Sports & Fitness Industry Association's own Tom Cove, President and CEO. Tom shared a treasure trove of career and industry insights, including: i) Recognize skill gaps and navigate them with integrity and confidence ii) Pursue authentic, win-win partnerships from start to finish iii) Embrace diversity in collaboration - it's essential, not just a nice-to-have iv) Invest in all athletes (especially those who don't fit the profile norm) to boost participation and fitness activity in all sports v) Listen to both spoken and unspoken brand feedback - silence can be so telling Tom emphasized the need for more women in youth sports leadership (coaches and officials) and the need to focus on the insights behind the numbers, not just data. His advice on learning from failure and the ability to pivot quickly to a new direction struck a chord. Finally, his recommendations for words to live by for the Excelerators were authenticity, confidence, reading the room, and choosing your battles wisely. This session was a perfect kickoff to our Excelerator Brunch 'N Learn Series running through November. #ProfessionalGrowth #SportsIndustry #LeadershipLessons

I've talked about the impact that the AIQ.team has in the NFL, but our value transcends beyond just the sport of football - we have a significant presence in basketball, baseball, hockey, soccer and more. With the National Basketball Association (NBA) Finals & Draft right around the corner, our team is looking at this past year's rookie class and the signals the AIQ picked up between the players cognitive scores & performance on the court. 🏀 I wanted to share one in particular: the NBA All-Rookie team outperformed all of the other 2023 NBA prospects in the area of Learning Efficiency (LE). LE is one of the 15 data points the AIQ measures and affects a player's ability to learn technique, strategy, reports, etc. and recall this information readily when needed. Teams that use the AIQ for scouting & talent selection know that LE is a crucial indicator in a prospect's ability to learn the playbook more quickly than their peers and adjust to the speed of the game better than other draftees. As sports evolve to rely heavily on analytics and measuring "between the ears", we continue to provide insights & correlations to our teams to help them select the right talent, develop players properly, and ultimately take the right step to a championship caliber team. #Linkedinsports #NBA #CognitiveAssessment
