“I worked with Chris at athenahealth for 4 years. 1.5 of those years I was a direct report. To begin, I can’t say enough about Chris as a person. He’s one of the most positive, optimistic, and encouraging people I’ve ever been around. While Chris is a great person, he’s also a great manager. Of the countless compliments I would bestow on Chris as a leader, the trust he shows in his team is the one I cherished the most. Chris fostered an environment where we were able to work autonomously, be creative, and take chances. Yet, if we got in a bind he was always there to back us up and bail us out. By creating a trusting environment, we felt a sense of ownership and pride in our work. And while the autonomy was great… One of my favorite experiences at athena was pulling Chris into a room to collaborate. Whether it was a very specific workflow, a focused brainstorm, or a crazy whiteboard session, there was no doubt we were going to end up in a better place than where started.
