  • Systems and methods for determining congruency in data sets

    Issued AU 2021106743 A4

    ABSTRACT
A computerized system and methods are provided for calculating hash values for each cell in the source and target database. A method is also provided to compare hash values for each cell in the source and target cells and provides any anomalies. To speed up the congruency determinacy process a method to calculate hash of an entity in its entirety is provided. (E.g., database table, a file, or a document).
The system then certifies the target database as congruent database with reference to source database. This method will also help to find the degree of isomorphism in the data sets helping to determine the quality of data migrations. Parallel computing processing could be utilized to rapid determination of the congruency when dealing with large data sets. This system and method could be used for several data types such as numbers, strings, BLOBs, CLOBs etc.,
The DB engines or DBMS internal algorithms should support fast data structures that lends to O(1) lookups. Although some of the prominent DB engines have these algorithms but they are not optimal or functional when used across the disparate databases. Comparing data sets with low data print could be achieved easily by using several inbuilt functionalities within the database engines. But when data sets are in size of 100’s of Terabytes or Petabytes it would be a daunting task for the database engineers to certify the migrated data set is identical to the source.
Determining congruency of data sets after migration is essential to comply with HIPAA/SOX standards. Noncompliance could result in millions of dollars of fines and penalty to the organizations maintaining/migrating the data sets.
