I live in the Bronx. The Bronx, home of hip-hop and the home of the only real little/Italy left ( yeah I said it) … is the poorest borough in New York City, with nearly one-third of its residents living below the federal poverty line. Still it flourishes with culture and people that truly cares about their communities. Not surprisingly, the Bronx is considered to have some of the worst health outcomes in New York City. Health being directly correlated to financial literacy and economic power. “Addressing the ways in which social needs influence health outcomes is critical to improving the health, well-being, and quality of life of communities and individuals” In the Bronx, each additional community health workers hired by a medical home had a net savings of $170,213 in costs per year, and hospitalizations among patients with chronic health issues such as diabetes fell 12.6 percent. The study also reported an additional $250 per patient per MONTH! 🫨🫨🫨 As a health service organization. Are you still not gathering each engagement data point to ensure your Community Health Workers are bring the value to your organization and to your communities? How do you let them know which members are at risk of dropping the programs proactively? How do you help them connect with their program members in a personalized yet scalable way? How can they enable their members with the right information at the right time, regardless of the time of the day? How do you empower the members to take ownership on their own time? How are you allowing CHWs to focus on what matters most, which is building trusting relationships with their members without sacrificing your ability to collect data and make better strategic decisions? I live in the Bronx … the poorest neighborhood in NYC and I get to see everyday the resiliency, energy and hopefulyness of its people and those who still care. Building a business is HARD. Even harder as a Black Female Founder. One underrated key to business growth is... → "Partnerships." Mane Hook-Up has partnered with 16 brands 🥳 We formed these partnerships by... 1) Networking. ↳ Connected with like-minded people. ↳ Commented on posts and sent DMs 2) Communicating openly. ↳ Discussed potential synergies ↳ Focused on problems we could solve together. 3) Investing in relationships. ↳ Partnerships require nurturing. ↳ Gave without expecting anything. 4) Collaborating on projects. ↳ Worked together on campaigns or events. We did all of these with ONE thing in mind. "To build mutual relationships and grow" Building a business is hard enough. Don't do it alone!

Wow! Especially, since I saw several posts on the launch of inVest Ventures on LinkedIn 😢 💙 Perfect timing. The #diversity of our country is something to be #proud of as it is a source of endless #opportunities, which should not be overlooked – especially in sectors like #technology. On Monday, I attended an insightful conversation presented by the Cercle canadien de Montréal highlighting the important missed opportunity we face as a country given the financing gap when it comes to unrepresented communities. It was a refreshing conversation where Wils Theagene, B.Eng,Msc, Annick Charbonneau and Jean Vincent talked about their important work and provided tangible examples of actions that can be taken by the investment ecosystem to bridge the #fundinggap. This made me reflect on the op-ed Isaac Dream Maker Olowolafe and I wrote earlier this year on that subject. TheFutureEconomy.ca approached us to provide insight on what could be improved to better support #Blackentrepreneurs in Canada. We pulled out results from Senator Colin Deacon and L'Hon./Hon. Amina GERBA, M.B.A., C.Q.🇨🇦 ’s studies and shared our lived experience in the space - having raised the first institutionally backed Black-led #VentureCapital fund in Canada and having been focused on investing in Black-led tech companies for the past three years. One of the experiences that was striking to us was the number of talented #BlackEntrepreneurs we met, giants in their industries, who were welcomed and celebrated at social and visible functions while still getting denied when it came to significant long-standing partnerships (i.e. #funding). We have seen progress but dismantling entrenched systems requires a long-term vision, sustained commitment, and concerted efforts from financial institutions, philanthropic organizations, government bodies, corporations, and individual investors. "Black founders encounter some of the most daunting obstacles in propelling their businesses beyond the startup phase and into large-scale retail, especially as they often navigate the journey alone and face limited access to capital. Being retail-ready entails having operational support, such as a seamless supply chain process with a reliable manufacturer and fulfilment centre, as well as a team capable of handling marketing, branding and influencer partnerships. As we witness a historic shift in our political landscape, I can't help but reflect on what this means for women of color (WOC) in all industries, particularly in production and media. Vice President Kamala Harris's potential ascension to the Democratic presidential nomination is a watershed moment. Regardless of party affiliation, seeing a woman of color poised to potentially lead the free world is profound. It challenges norms and opens doors that have long been closed. In our industry, representation matters more than ever. As a WOC in production, I've seen firsthand the challenges we face. VP Harris will likely encounter similar obstacles - her competence questioned, her identity scrutinized. But her resilience can serve as a blueprint for WOC in powerful positions across all sectors. For corporate brands, production studios, and media schools, this moment demands introspection. How are we elevating diverse voices? Are we creating access and truly inclusive environments? The spotlight on Harris amplifies these conversations. A Harris Administration could mean increased support for arts and media, potentially expanding opportunities in our field. But more importantly, Harris's visibility could inspire a new generation of diverse storytellers and producers. As the founder of Productions.com, I'm committed to providing opportunities for production professionals of all backgrounds and this includes bridging gaps and creating access for underrepresented talent. #Black #women are the #fastest-#growing #group of #entrepreneurs in the U.S.🇺🇸 Black women make up less than 10% of the U.S. population, but they’ve emerged as the fastest-growing group of entrepreneurs, new #research from GoDaddy has found. Between 2017 and 2020, the number of #Black #women-#owned #businesses #increased by nearly 20%, far exceeding the growth of women-owned businesses and Black-owned businesses overall, the The Brookings Institution reports. “To me, the rise of Black women entrepreneurs means we’re starting to believe in ourselves more, that we’re finally recognizing how limitless we are,” says Joy Ofodu, who quit her job at Instagram to become a full-time content creator and voice actor in 2022. Black women and girls represented less than 4% of leads or co-leads in the 100 top-grossing films of the last decade, according to a 2021 report from the University of Southern California’s Viterbi School of Engineering and the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media. “Ultimately, when it comes to being a Black woman entrepreneur, I don’t want what I am doing to be so rare, it doesn’t energize me to be the first or only Black woman to do something,” says Ofodu. “I want to fling open the doors for many, many others to join me.” Thanks Robert F. All these underscore the disconnect between employers and students when recruiting at HBCUs. Employers report struggling with low engagement or engagement that doesn’t translate into applications, while students and HBCU staff report ineffective engagement strategies from employers. So, how can employers effectively engage HBCU students? The best recruiting strategies are rooted in three key pillars: authenticity, intentionality, and partnership. In 2014, a show called Black-ish came out on TV. This sitcom series followed an upper-class black family as they attempted to juggle success and wealth while also dealing with personal and social issues that challenged their Black identities. While Book-ish isn’t about a clash between social and personal expectations, it is a clash between something very important! A desire to grow and be successful vs. The annoying amount of time it takes. Reading is a direct portal to success. Skilled authors pour their brightest and most innovative ideas onto paper, hoping the reader is transformed forever!
